Crystal Palace’s search for a new manager is set to continue for much of the next two months, with Oliver Glasner departing. Could Ruben Amorim be the man to take the helm at Selhurst Park?

Tom Masters explains that Ruben Amorim could end up as the Crystal Palace manager next season.

Crystal Palace are planning next steps regarding their new manager for next season.

There is very little information out there on who they are speaking to or, in fact, if they are speaking to anyone.

But what is known is that Oliver Glasner will leave the club this summer after his incredible spell at the club, which has seen them lift two trophies and reach the semi-finals in the Conference League.

There are some very big shoes to fill for whoever does take the job on at Crystal Palace.

Gone are the days of being content with mid-table mediocrity. This is a team that has had a taste of both silverware and European nights and the fans, players and board are going to want a whole lot more of that.

But when losing the very man who has masterminded it all, while losing key men Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, it is an almost thankless task to find the man to take the job on.

One man who is desperate for some sort of redemption in the Premier League is Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese had a disastrous reign at Manchester United, highlighted primarily by the ease in which the Red Devils have climbed the table since he was sacked.

But, at Sporting, his football was incredible, which is why he was offered the Manchester United job in the first place.

Former Eagle Jason Puncheon believes he is the man to follow on from Glasner, telling the Mirror: “The reason being is he went to Sporting, brought that team up out of nowhere, rebuilt himself and did well.

“When he went to Manchester United, it’s a different pressure. You’re trying to change a team into 3-4-3. That takes time.

“At Manchester United, you don’t have time. I think at Crystal Palace, he’s going to have that time.”

Of course one of the big advantages in Amorim from a Palace perspective is the continuity he could provide.

The 41-year-old also opts for a 3-4-2-1 formation and, having played that way for two-and-a-half years to great success, that formation could be something that Steve Parish will look to continue.

Manchester United were not set up to play that way, even when bringing in the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

But Palace, well, they are ready to go for Amorim.

Whether or not Parish and the Palace fans would be willing to take the gamble, given how badly things went at Manchester United, remains to be seen but there is certainly some logic in appointing Amorim to follow in Glasner’s footsteps.
