The World Cup is over two weeks old now and matches continue to come thick and fast as the knockout stages approach.

As ever though, while the World Cup is going on, players from across the land are keeping tabs on who they can sign to improve their squad.

And with the transfer window now very much open, it feels like the perfect time to look at a handful of players Crystal Palace could sign this summer as Pierre Sage looks to create a squad ready to compete in the Europa League.

Alex Freeman (USA)

Crystal Palace, at the very least, need competition for Daniel Munoz on the right-hand side and, at best, need a replacement if the Colombian leaves.

Borna Sosa has proven to be an unreliable deputy and someone who Oliver Glasner used extremely sparingly during his time as Palace manager.

Assuming Sage opts for the same 3-4-2-1 formation, then Alex Freeman could well fit the bill to cover for Munoz or even take the mantle as the new starter should he leave.

With a goal and an assist to his name at the World Cup already, Freeman has shown his attacking ability, while he has the height and the pace to be physically ready for Premier League action.

At Villarreal last season Freeman played just nine times, so he is hardly essential to their plans for the upcoming season.

Joel Ordonez (Ecuador)

Fresh from starring in a stunning performance for Ecuador against Germany on Thursday night, Joel Ordonez could certainly be a player on Pierre Sage’s radar.

The Eagles need at least one centre back, and possibly more if Maxence Lacroix leaves to join Chelsea.

The Club Brugge defender appears to have all it takes to thrive in the Premier League, with his tall frame, speed, and passing ability all things that Sage will desire in a defender.

His price as well could be around roughly what Palace would traditionally spend on a defender, with Ordonez likely to be in and around the £20 million mark.

Julian Quinones (Mexico)

Probably Mexico’s standout performer from their perfect group stage campaign, Julain Quinones is a hugely exciting winger.

At 29, he is no spring chicken, while his wages at Al Qadsiah could also present problems.

But Palace are looking to have more depth alongside Ismaila Sarr in the attacking areas, and Quinones, with two goals in three matches for Mexico, certainly possesses the ability to slot right into the Eagles’ attack.
