A round-up of the biggest news stories from Crystal Palace across the last week, including the Como Cup, player departures and WSL fixtures.
Como Cup Performance
Just in case you missed it, Palace finished 5th place out of six teams in the Como Cup. They beat Saudi Arabian side Al Ula 3-1 in the final match, after finishing bottom of their group earlier in the week.
The game saw a number of first team players return to action including Daichi Kamada and Ismaila Sarr. Adam Wharton however was absent from the tournament, with confirmation that he remains struggling with an ankle injury.
Three Eagles Depart South London
It was finally confirmed last week that Maxence Lacroix had completed his £52million move across London to Chelsea. In another blow to Palace fans, after his absence in the summer so far, Nathaniel Clyne also confirmed his departure from South London.
Clyne’s loss is felt strongly across the fan base, as he has been with Palace since his academy days and the days of the Championship. He told club media that being part of the trophy winning squad in the last two seasons has brought him some of the best days of his life.
Daniel Imray has also departed South London, with the 23-year-old moving to Championship side Wrexham on a permanent move worth close to £5 million. Imray has risen through the ranks at Palace with a series of successful loan moves, and could be looking at a great future at Wrexham.
Palace Considering Permanent Move For Tomiyasu
It was revealed last week that Palace had held talks with Takehiro Tomiyasu over a permanent move to South London, after the 27-year-old was named as a substitute in the Como Cup match against RC Lens and featured in the 5th place play off against Al Ula.
The Japanese international has been training with Palace and could join on a free transfer if Sage is reassured by his progress, following a difficult few seasons of injuries. Tomiyasu would bring Premier League experience and defensive reinforcements to the squad.
Crystal Palace Women
The Eagles have signed another forward with the signing of Shannon O’Brien from Leicester City. The 24-year-old spent five years with Leicster in the WSL, bringing with her a strong background of experience. She has signed a three-year-deal for Palace, and is another signing which brings confidence ahead of the new season.
The Women’s Super League fixtures were released last Thursday revealing how Palace Women will start their second ever season in the women’s top flight. Their first five games are: Everton (H), Arsenal (A), Tottenham (H - Selhurst Park), Birmingham City (A), Aston Villa (A).
Palace will take part in two rivalries, playing Brighton & Hove Albion on 1 November (A) and 2 May (H), and Charlton Athletic on 8 November (H) and 31 January (A).
Looking ahead, Palace Women will face Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday 5, which is free to watch on Palace TV.
