Crystal Palace forward Yeremy Pino has been included in the Spain squad for the 2026 World Cup. His selection means that Palace have more players in the Spain squad than Real Madrid, who have no players in the Spain squad for the first time ever.

Crystal Palace forward Yeremy Pino has been selected in the Spain squad for the 2026 World Cup.

With club football coming to an end, with just the Conference League final, which of course Pino will be involved in for Palace, and the Champions League final to come, eyes are starting to look towards the World Cup.

And the latest nation to name their squad is Spain, who are considered one of the favourites for the competition, having beaten England in the 2024 Euros.

It has been an up-and-down season for Pino, who has often performed on the pitch but has been routinely unlucky with his output.

He still has five goals and six assists in 52 matches for Palace this season in all competitions, including a goal and two assists in the Conference League campaign.

He came on as a replacement in both friendly matches for Spain in March against Serbia and Egypt and will now have the opportunity to take to the field during the World Cup.

Spain are the bookies’ favourite to win the competition, coming off the back of their Euro 2024 triumph and with several players from Spanish title winners Barcelona and Premier League winners Arsenal.

Incredibly though, for the first time in the history of the World Cup, there will be no Real Madrid players in the Spain squad.

Neither former Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen or Dani Carvajal were included.

That means that Crystal Palace have more players in the Spain squad than Real Madrid, while Pino’s inclusion, as well as the selections of Maxence Lacroix and Jean-Philippe Mateta in the France squad, means that there are more Palace outfield players in the France and Spain squads than in the England squad after Adam Wharton’s snub.

Overall, there are as many as nine Barcelona players selected, most notably of course Lamine Yamal, who will look to dazzle his way into the history books once more.

Pino is joined in the Spain squad by fellow Premier League players David Raya, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino (all Arsenal), Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Pedro Porro of Tottenham Hotspur and Rodri of Manchester City.

It is the second time Pino has been selected for the World Cup, after also being included in the 2022 squad in Qatar.
