
Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix has said that his dream is to win the World Cup with France this summer. Lacroix made his les Bleus debut in the 2-1 win over Brazil and now has his eyes set on a much bigger prize.
Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix has revealed that he dreams of winning the World Cup with France this summer.
The 25-year-old earned his first senior cap with Les Bleus in the 2-1 win over Brazil, following injury to Arsenal’s William Saliba.
Now Lacroix has made it clear that he wants to be a part of the squad for this summer’s World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
He told the Crystal Palace website: “We have a beautiful squad, a beautiful competition in the USA, so everything is good, and I will work to go there, of course.
“I think it’s a big achievement [to be called up], I am proud of where I come from, and also the work I've done with all the people around me.
“But I think it's not only my achievement. It's the achievement of my family, of the people around me, the people who helped me.
“My dream is to win the World Cup - I want to win the World Cup with France.”
Palace fans will be delighted to hear, that with so much to play for in the remainder of the season, that Lacroix has his heart firmly set on success at Selhurst Park too.
He said: “At Palace, of course, right now it's to win the Conference League.
“We can't win the Premier League right now, but in the Conference League, we have our chance – so this is our ambition.
“We are proud about what we did [reaching the quarter-finals], but this is not enough. You always want more. The competition is not finished."
Palace’s next game will be against Italian side Fiorentina in the quarter-finals of the Conference League.
Lacroix made it clear previously that Palace would take their chances against Fiorentina after making things difficult for themselves against AEK Larnaca.
The vice-captain said: “We have now two more games to play [against Fiorentina in the quarter-finals] and we will do everything to go until the end, because this is the goal.
“We don't want to say just: ‘Okay, we've been to the quarter-final, the semi-final, the final’. No, we want to do something in this competition.
“It’s always lovely to make history, especially for a club like this, and we want to write the story. I think it's not finished.
“Like the gaffer likes to say, we don't have a ceiling anymore. We want to go further and further and we want to create another legend.”
