Tyrick Mitchell is due to return to training on Wednesday, ahead of their Conference League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.
Mitchell has been a vital cog in the Palace side that have reached the semi-finals of the Conference League, after starring in the FA Cup and Community Shield-winning teams under Oliver Glasner.
He has played in 47 matches for the club this season already, more than any other season and with another eight potential matches to go.
In the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, he was withdrawn at half-time, with Croatian Borna Sosa replacing him at the break.
Oliver Glasner revealed post-match that it was due to an Achilles injury, which was thought to be minor.
Fortunately for Palace, the injury has indeed seemingly been minor enough for Mitchell to return to training ahead of the Conference League semi-final first leg.
Palace face Shakhtar Donetsk in Krakow, Poland on Thursday night and they will hope to continue their recent trend of excelling in away matches in the Conference League this season.
According to James Savundra of Sky Sports, Mitchell is set to return to training on Wednesday ahead of the Conference League semi-final after missing the rest of the week due to illness.
Savundra said on X: “Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell expected to return to training tomorrow ahead of Conference League semi-final.
“Achilles injury not serious which forced him off at Liverpool - has been dealing with illness at start of this week.”
Tyrick Mitchell's Achilles injury does not seem as bad as first feared. Mitchell has played in 11 matches thus far in the Conference League, scoring the second goal in the 3-0 win over Fiorentina in the first leg of the quarter-final at Selhurst Park.
While Sosa is an experienced player who has represented Croatia on 26 occasions and played in the 2022 World Cup, in which they finished third, he has had limited minutes so far this season.
Glasner will hope that he can bring Mitchell back into the team from the off against Shakhtar and then reassess his decision ahead of the Premier League match against Bournemouth on Sunday.
The Eagles then play Shakhtar at Selhurst Park on Thursday May 7 in the second leg, a match in which Glasner will want Mitchell fit and firing.
But, ahead of the first leg at least, there is positive news in that Mitchell appears to be fit and raring to go and hopefully he is able to train well and slot straight back into the team in Poland.
