Tyrick Mitchell's time at Palace may sometimes go out of the spotlight but he is one of Palace's most reliable performers.
Crystal Palace fans were taught a lot with this summer's transfer window with the debacle of Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta pushing for exits from the club. But perhaps one of the biggest lessons was to appreciate the underrated and often overlooked workhorses that have underpinned Palace's best ever seasons.
At the heart of Palace's history making team, playing at the back on the left, is Tyrick Mitchell one of Palace's own and a humble player for the club.
Following the 3-2 victory away at Fulham earlier this month Mitchell was reluctant to engage in the Maxence Lacroix inspired fan celebrations after the win, more focused on celebrating with his team mates.
Often out of the spotlight Mitchell has been one of Palace’s most solid defensive performers for the last few seasons, and as of recent has become an attacking asset too with his two goals against Fulham.
Mitchell's Legacy
Mitchell joined Palace Academy from Brentford a decade ago and quickly rose in prominence at the club featuring in Palace's Under-18 and Under-23 squads before making his senior debut in July 2020 in a Premier League match against Leicester City.
The 27-year-old broke through into the starting line-up under Roy Hodgson and solidified his place in the squad which earned him his first England call-up in March 2022.
He goes down in Palace history as the youngest player to reach 200 top-flight appearances for the club, which was met in April 2026.
Throughout the last few seasons Mitchell has rarely missed games for injury, becoming one of Palace's most reliable players in the Eagles best years. In the 2024/25 season he missed only one league game, and reached five assists. He was also an important part of Palace's FA Cup winning squad.
Last season he played every minute of the Premier League campaign making 55 appearances across all competitions with 3 goals and four assists, with two of those goals and assists coming in Palace's run up to lifting the UEFA Conference League trophy.
Over the last ten years Mitchell has made an incredible journey through the academy to becoming one of Palace's most respected players. His legacy at Palace is one that can inspire future academy prospects, and is one fans truly respect for his loyalties to the club throughout the time.
His Future
Mitchell's contract is set to expire in next summer (2027). He signed a five year contract in 2021 , with an unannounced extension or new deal keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027.
Recent rumours have circulated online of interest from Manchester United and Liverpool who value Mitchell's reliability and see a free transfer as a really lucrative deal for a player of his standard.
Speculation suggests Palace are considering offering Mitchell a new contract, but there has not been a reliable report that this is definitely the case.
If the club are yet to offer Mitchell a new contract it really should be a no brainer for a Palace legend who is a solid performer, a workhorse and an important team player. Palace really should consider offering Mitchell a lucrative deal as it would be a sad day to see such an important player, and the longest serving player in the squad, chose to depart South London.
