David Moyes Might Have to Make Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall Change at Everton

Been a long international break, hasn’t it? Everton are back in action against Hull City after 3 weeks off. I, for one, can’t wait to get back to it (for now!).

The midfield maestro Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is a topic of debate in recent weeks. David Moyes has certainly made it abundantly clear that KDH is pretty much the first name on the team sheet and, let’s face it, an Everton captain in waiting.

Dewsbury-Hall, like most of the Everton team, finished the 25/26 season with a whimper. Dewsbury-Hall seemed like he was struggling, probably from the number of minutes he had after his injury layoff mid-season.

I am a big fan of Dewsbury-Hall. The lad has got talent; he runs with the ball, he tracks back, he can score. His corners have been known to be rather Kevin Mirallas-esque sometimes, mind.

He started this season with a goal vs Crystal Palace, a very well-taken goal, might I add. His performances, in my opinion, have been somewhat subdued.

I feel Dewsbury-Hall does try and do too much to impact the game: the Hollywood pass, the ambitious attempts on goal instead of sticking to the basics that made him such a success last year.

He has been a bit lacklustre in his decision-making at times too. This could come from a lack of options around the lad, but it has been noticed that he does dally on the ball.

I am not saying Dewsbury-Hall should be dropped, not by any stretch. Could he be ready to sit a bit deeper in an Everton midfield? With Jack Grealish maybe playing in the 10? Dewsbury-Hall and Grealish have a definite understanding with each other, which we saw a lot in the early games of last season.

Dewsbury-Hall scored eight goals in 31 league games last season, which is not a bad return for a debut season for a player who has been shoved round the midfield.

I am by no means writing the lad off, we need Dewsbury-Hall fit and firing. What I have noticed is that when Dewsbury-Hall is on it, Everton are on it and that speaks volumes of his talent.

Let’s not forget, this is a player who won the Club World Cup with Chelsea and has commanded a fee of £30m in two of his last moves.

This break may have done Dewsbury Hall the world of good. I think he has the potential to be a great for the Blues. Let’s wait and see… and hope.
