Everton host Manchester United on Sunday as the Toffees look to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
David Moyes’s side secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace to kick-start the season, before knocking Preston North End out of the Carabao Cup with a 4-0 win.
Everton took a trip down to Bournemouth in their second Premier League game of the campaign, with James Tarkowski firing home a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw.
With the summer transfer window now closed, Everton’s squad is now set until the January market opens, unless the Toffees decide to dip into the free agent market.
There’s no doubt their squad isn’t in a strong place heading towards the game against United, although it’s almost as strong as it could possibly be, with only Christian Norgaard likely to be sidelined.
In United’s first-ever trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium last season, the Red Devils came away with a 1-0 victory thanks to a Benjamin Sesko winner. The Toffees won the reverse fixture, also securing a 1-0 win away from home, the day Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fired in a long-range stunner after Idrissa Gueye was sent off for slapping Michael Keane.
This weekend, Everton face a United side who were deadly in front of goal last time out. Michael Carrick’s side have shown some defensive vulnerabilities so far, and it’s up to Everton to try to take advantage of that.
Team news
Everton’s only injury concern should be midfielder Norgaard. Moyes failed to give an update on the Danish midfielder’s fitness in his press conference, but he’s yet to feature for the club since his move in the summer transfer window.
Onto United, and Amad Diallo and Mason Mount are also yet to feature this term, but the latter has been involved in first-team training this week, so he could be in line to return.
Matthijs de Ligt has been training with the first-team group, but he still appears to be recovering from back surgery earlier this year. Manuel Ugarte remains out as he continues his recovery from a long-term knee injury.

Pickford; Rohl, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Garner, Armstrong; Johnson, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Barry.
If I remember correctly, Jack Grealish didn’t start his first game at the club in his first loan spell, but I do feel like he will this time around. Grealish has been training and playing with Man City in recent weeks, so there’s little reason why he shouldn’t be ready to start.
There are tough decisions to make at right-back and right-wing, but I do feel most of the other positions pick themselves.
Will Merlin Rohl keep his place? Or does Ainsley Maitland-Niles come straight into the side? I think it might be Rohl.
The right-wing position is the other contentious one. Will Tyrique George play there, despite being more comfortable on the left, does Brennan Johnson start, or, least likely, Tyler Dibling?
To have more balance and transitional threat, I think Johnson wins that battle.
