Everton's Next Two Games Are Crucial, Here's Why
Oct 26, 2026 5:30 PM

Everton face a double header against Newcastle in the Premier League and Carabao Cup over the next seven days.

Everton’s next two games are seriously crucial.

Three defeats on the bounce would see the unbeaten run at the start of the season completely forgotten about, and the atmosphere around the club going downhill.

The next game sees Everton try to advance into the next round of the Carabao Cup, and it’s an opportunity to prove that we’re serious about winning something this season.

At the start of November, if Everton fail to win their next two, we could find ourselves out of a cup, in the bottom half of the Premier League table, and looking over our shoulder again.

If Everton secure two victories, positivity will surround the club once again.

Everton need some positive performances and results. As mentioned in our previous article, even some of the draws and wins haven’t been totally convincing, and there are only a small number of games where you can truly say Everton have deserved a result.

Newcastle in the cup

This is a chance for Everton to reach the fifth round of the Carabao Cup. It’s Everton’s first proper test in the competition, having played Championship sides in both of the previous two rounds.

Beating Newcastle in the cup will give Everton a big psychological advantage over the Magpies, with the two sides also going head-to-head in the Premier League in their next match.

If Everton are knocked out of the cup at home against a side like Newcastle, who haven’t been convincing this season, then it will be a serious negative for the campaign.

A defeat will give Newcastle all the confidence in the world that they can beat Everton when they host them next Monday, so it could be a disastrous result in more ways than one.

Newcastle in the league

Losing to Newcastle would see the Magpies climb above Everton in the Premier League table. There’s also a strong chance multiple other sides also go above the Toffees, which would see them fall into the bottom half.

That would make it three defeats in a row and just one win in the last eight league games.

A win in the cup wouldn’t be enough for a defeat in the Premier League not to cause serious concern among supporters.

A win in the league, however, will see Everton likely climb back into the top half of the Premier League table. It will be our first win of the season away from home, and it'll be against a side who we are likely to be competing with in terms of league position all campaign.

Crucial period

There is a lot of negativity surrounding the club at the moment for multiple different reasons. The defeat against Chelsea was a concern due to the lack of threat, while the game against Arsenal just showed how negatively we set up.

Beating Newcastle twice will bring so much positivity to the club. Advancing in the club and winning away from home in the Premier League. It doesn't take a lot to lift the fans, and it's imperative Everton produce two strong performances over the next week or so.

We showed last season we can beat Newcastle away from home in the Premier League, so let's do so again.
