Everton midfielder Harrison Armstrong was close to joining Nottingham Forest just a few months ago.
When Everton tried to sell Harrison Armstrong during the summer transfer window, it was a moment that the fanbase should be proud of.
The supporters of this great football club have been through some incredibly difficult times over the last few years, and they've collectively learnt how to rally together. Usually, it's to give the players a boost through tricky periods, but this time, it was an attempt to change the mind of some powerful people.
That's not easy, so every Evertonian who spoke their mind deserves credit. It's unclear whether Everton reversed their decision to sell Armstrong due to social media uproar, the fans signalling their opinions at the game against Bournemouth, or both, but if you partook in either, well done.
Armstrong speaks on failed move
When asked about the support from Evertonians, particularly following his potential move to Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window, Armstrong talks about how it meant the world to him and his family.
“The [support] has meant the world to me and my family,” Armstrong said.
The Everton youngster says that it's 'special' that the fanbase rallied together to voice their opinions on the matter, and it's something he's never seen before.
“In a moment where… I understand it’s part of the game and you’re going to have to experience moments like that, but for a fanbase to get involved and show as much support as they did, is special.
“I don’t think I’ve seen that before. I’ve given me confidence, it’s made me feel loved.
“And it’s cemented that this is the place to be for me.”
It was some strong comments from Armstrong, particularly that he feels this is the place for him. The youngster might have been considering an exit from Everton in the summer, but hopefully he's looking to stick around in the long term.
Everton need to tie him down
Interest in Armstrong isn't going to disappear. The bid from Nottingham Forest is likely only the start, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see interest continue if he's playing regularly in the Premier League.
The 19-year-old currently has two years remaining on his contract, with the Toffees having the option to extend that by a further 12 months.
In terms of the time left on his deal, Everton might not feel that they are in a rush to sort his contract, but the Toffees need to do what they did with Jarrad Branthwaite. Show your faith in him, offer him a wage package more suited to someone playing regularly for Everton Football Club, and increase his value for when clubs inevitably come knocking.
Everton have a special talent on their hands, and they need to reward him for his impressive form and the way he's adapted to playing regularly in the Premier League.
It's a surprise we haven't heard of contract talks happening as soon as the move to Forest fell through, as that's the first thing that should have happened between the two parties.
