Everton have had some impressive results against Chelsea over the years, so let's revisit them.
After a 2-2 draw away at Hull, the Blues are back at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to face Chelsea. Over the years, this fixture has been a good (ish) time for the Blues. We won’t talk about trips to Stamford Bridge (1994 win, anyone?).
Everton 3-1 Chelsea 12th September 2015
Bobby Martinez’s Everton vs Jose Mourinho’s champions Chelsea. What could go wrong? Well, nothing really!
Mo Besic got an early injury and was surprisingly replaced by Steven Naismith to the shock of most in the ground. Me included, who said to his mate next to him, why bring him on? Well, three goals (a perfect hat-trick) later and Everton were 2nd in the league by 3pm. Great days. Good goal by Nemanja Matic for Chelsea too, mind.
Everton 0-3 Chelsea 30th April 2017
The only defeat I will talk about today. Everton had a great season at home under Ronald Koeman, with goals from Romelu Lukaku coming aplenty.
This game, however, belonged to that little Spaniard Pedro. Chelsea were league champions again this season.
Pedro absolutely destroyed us, we had no answer for him at all and capped a MOTM performance with a lovely curling shot into the top bin. Everton got Europe, so it didn’t matter too much.
Everton 3-1 Chelsea 7th December 2019
Marco Silva had been sacked after a horrendous start to the season. Duncan Ferguson was put in temporary control of the Blues for this game Vs Chelsea.
This game had it all for the Blues. The roar from Goodison Park, the sheer intensity from the Blues, it was a great afternoon.
Dominic Calvert Lewin with two and Richarlison with the first, with a lovely guided header. Duncan Ferguson picking up and throwing ball boys around in celebration. All that good stuff, three points and Carlo incoming.
Everton 1-0 Chelsea 1st May 2022
Frank Lampard’s men were in dire straits coming into this game. Everton needed a win. Dull affair but the significance of this result and the manner in which Everton got it showed that we had the fight to stay up.
Richarlison capitalising on an uncharacteristic mistake by Thiago Silva to slot past Kepa just after half-time proved to be the winning goal.
That wasn’t the real story. Jordan Pickford made one of the most ridiculous double saves: the ball had bounced back off the post, seemingly in no man's land, recovers and stops Azpilicueta’s strike on goal while his whole body was behind the goal. You had to see it to believe it.
Everton 3-0 Chelsea 21st March 2026
Best result and game at the Hill Dickinson to date. Everton absolutely battered a hapless Chelsea, 3-0 most definitely flattering them. Two goals from a resurgent Beto, topped off by a lovely finish by Iliman Ndiaye. The Blues look all set for a European place. The noise from the new ground was one for the ages.
Honourable mention: when we beat Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals 2-0 in 2016. I think Gary Cahill is still spinning around, looking for Romelu Lukaku now.
