It was far from a vintage Fulham performance against Brentford but thanks to a moment of magic from Bernd Leno at the end, they were able to hold on for a point.
Bernd Leno made a magical late save to ensure Fulham made the short trip home from Brentford with a point in a 0-0 draw.
For the second successive week, Fulham failed to create any chances of note, and this time left the Gtech Stadium having failed to have a single shot on target.
Brentford had by far the pick of the chances throughout the game and looked the most likely team to score, but were denied at the death by a superb save from Leno.
The German goalkeeper was somehow able to get a hand on a shot from close range and, as a result, was awarded player of the match in a low-quality game.
Igor Thiago had a chance inside 10 minutes, but it was Keane Lewis-Potter who came closest to scoring for the Bees, failing to direct an effort from close range on target and poking it over the bar after a smart drag back created the chance.
The biggest moment from a Fulham perspective in the opening 45 minutes was undoubtedly the injury to Alex Iwobi, who appeared to pull up with a hamstring injury when chasing a loose pass.
In the second 45 minutes, Fulham were arguably even less effective going forward than in the first half and a goal never looked like coming for Marco Silva’s men.
Dango Ouattara, who had the only shot on target for either side in the first half, had the first of the second in the 58th minute but this was not one that troubled Leno.
Mikkel Damsgaard probably should have done better with his effort from the edge of the box, but it was Brentford who were creating openings and getting progressively more frustrated.
The one moment of some sort of excitement for the away side came through Harry Wilson, so often the man to spark Fulham into life.
He timed a run perfectly down the right channel and into the box, but his attempted cushioned effort ended up going out for a throw-in.
That more or less summed up the game from a Fulham perspective, but the big positive was that they did not lose this match, and that is almost entirely down to their goalkeeper, who made a save of the season-contending stop at the death.
It was Ouattara again, probably the most potent attacking player on the pitch, though that is not saying much, who hit an effort from within the six-yard box and Leno was able to get a finger tip to it and deny them.
The result could be one that proves to be satisfactory depending on how other teams get on this weekend but it does leave Fulham desperate for a win against Aston Villa next time out.
