Fulham midfielder Josh King described the moment he scored his first Premier League goal as one of 'pure joy.' King scored and assisted the Cottagers' first goal as they maintained their pressure on teams in and around the European places with a 3-1 win over Burnley.
Josh King described scoring his first Premier League goal as ‘pure joy’ as the teenager starred in Fulham’s 3-1 comeback win over Burnley.
The Cottagers went a goal down after Zian Flemming scored for the clarets on the hour mark but they bounced back after King scored the first and assisted Harry Wilson for the second, before Raul Jimenez scored a penalty five minutes into stoppage time.
It was the 19-year-old’s first Premier League goal after his previous effort against Chelsea back in August was disallowed for a foul in the build-up.
On scoring his first goal, King told Fulham FC: “The words I can’t really describe to be honest.
“I feel like because of what happened earlier on in the season, with the Chelsea goal being chalked off, it has been a difficult period for me just in terms of finding my feet in terms of goalscoring and stuff.
“I have been working on it every day, and all the boys, you can see how they celebrated it with me, they have got full confidence in me and I can just say thank you to everyone and I am really happy to get the goal.”
King’s goal was in the end rather scrappy after Martin Dubravka made a mess of the bouncing ball.
The England U21 international admitted it was not the sort of goal he imagined he would score to get off the mark but that it meant a lot.
“It is not the type of goal which I envisioned scoring as my first one, but they all count and it means so much to me and my family,” King said.
“I feel like everything happens at the right time, in terms of the goal, I thought I was going to almost pluck it out of the air as it came around over my head.
“Then it sort of just fell for me and sometimes it is the right time and today it was the right time for me.
“To be honest, I didn’t really know what to do in that situation and it is just pure joy, it is just pure joy and it is something you work so hard for.
“For me, for my family, it is such a big moment and hopefully I can build from this.
“I feel like it is my first proper season of football, my first real season where you are in the team, you are out of the team and you just have to keep going and keep trying to grow.”
