Bernd Leno described his last-minute save as 'the best' after he denied Brentford the chance to steal all three points at the death of their 0-0 draw.
Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno revelled in his sensational save at the death to preserve a point for Fulham at Brentford.
The Cottagers had failed once again to create any notable chances and had no shots on target all match.
But they had defensively done enough to prevent Brentford from scoring themselves right until the 90th minute.
Then the ball popped out into the path of Dango Ouattara from a mere six yards out, with the goal at the Brentford man’s mercy.
But Leno was able to get a magnificent hand to the ball and deny what seemed a certain goal, ensuring Fulham could make the short trip home with a point in the bag.
As a result of the save and with little else of note happening, Leno was awarded Player of the Match.
In his post-match interview with TNT Sports afterwards, Leno said: “These last moments in the last minute of the game are always the best.
"It was a difficult ball, first moment, I was not even sure if the ball was in or not and when I saw all my mates came over to me, it was a good moment.
"It was important for us because I think we deserved a point today.”
Fulham, as a result of the point and with Chelsea slipping to yet another defeat, are still within striking range of European football, despite only picking up a point from a possible six.
There are just three points between Chelsea in sixth and Fulham in 12th and as a result, every game is being treated like a cup final, according to Leno.
“Of course, there are five more games to go, five cup finals,” the German goalkeeper said.
“This was not our best game but in these games, you have to take at least one point.
“It is one more point on the road and maybe the point can be decisive at the end, so we move on.”
Fulham return back to Craven Cottage next week for another early kick-off, this time against Aston Villa.
With Arsenal away coming up the following week, it feels like a must-win game for the Cottagers, before they face Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle.
Leno is fully aware of the size of the task ahead of his team and insists they are excited for the challenge.
He said: “Next week, we have another big lunchtime game and we are looking forward to it.”
