Calvin Bassey rued hitting his header straight at goalkeeper Matz Sels in Fulham's 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest. The Nigerian defender had the biggest chance for Fulham to take all three points from a set piece, but they had to settle with a point in their pursuit of European football.
Calvin Bassey has rued not scoring his headed chance in the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
The Nigerian defender had Fulham’s clear chance of the game when heading at Forest keeper Matz Sels, who was able to keep the ball out of the net.
Forest almost scored a brilliant goal of their own through Bassey’s international teammate Ola Aina, with his long-range effort cannoning off the crossbar.
A share of the spoils was by no means a disastrous result for Fulham but it does reduce the margin of error when attempting to chase down Brentford for a shot at European football.
Bassey was frustrated by his header though, feeling he should have hit the back of the net.
He told Premier League Productions: “It was a big chance, I wasn’t sure if I was on or off.
“I timed it well, but just hit it straight at the keeper.
“I think I’ve got to pick a side, I’ve got to do a lot better. I think it’s got to be a goal, in my opinion.”
Fulham were able to keep a clean sheet, with Dan Ndoye twice caught offside by Fulham’s defensive line.

“Great line, of course, we always try to keep a good line and we managed to do that,” he added.
“Obviously, there’s a bit of luck as well, it was marginal, by a boot or something, but that’s what VAR is for.”
Fulham face an uphill battle to reach a coveted European spot, sitting three points behind seventh-placed Brentford in the table, who have a game in hand against Wolves on Monday night.
Marco Silva was adamant that Fulham would “fight until the end” in their pursuit of European football, with eight matches left to usurp the likes of Bournemouth, Newcastle and Everton, as well as Brentford, into that seventh spot.
Bassey agreed with his manager and insists that Fulham can finish in the European places.
He said: “I don’t think it’s ruled out. We take each game as it comes, anything can happen.
“I haven’t had a chance to look at the table and see where the other teams are at - the most important thing was that we didn’t lose this game, and we didn’t lose the game.
“We just take each game as it comes, and hopefully things will work in our favour as well.”
