The Premier League ban on gambling companies as shirt sponsors is coming into play at the start of the 2026/27 season. Fulham are one of 10 teams that have a sponsor on the front of their shirt but they are in a rare position compared to the other clubs.

Tom Masters explains Fulham's new shirt sponsorship situation.

Fulham look set to be one of two clubs to gain more commercially viable sponsorship deals than their current gambling ones, according to the Guardian.

Premier League teams will need to remove any gambling sponsors ahead of next season, which means that as many as 12 are currently seeking a new sponsor ahead of the 2026/27 season, 10 of which are as a result of needing to lose their gambling sponsor.

Fulham are one of those sides, with SBOTop on their shirts.

Premier League clubs have often opted for gambling companies as sponsors due to the lucrative nature of the contracts, with the companies involved willing to pay more for the exposure Premier League football provides.

But after a meeting with government officials, it was agreed that the Premier League would ban gambling sponsors on the front of shirts.

The agreement took place three years ago, and was to be put in place ahead of next season.

However, clubs are finding it hard to find suitable replacements, with a club official telling the Guardian the cumulative loss could amount to £80 million.

But Fulham are in a unique position where their new shirt sponsor could actually offer them more than the gambling sponsor they currently have.

The report states that they and Everton are in “advanced talks” with CMC Markets.

“Everton and Fulham appear set to buck that trend as they are in advanced negotiations with the foreign exchange trader CMC Markets,” it read.

“That would see the company sponsor both clubs in deals that will bring a modest increase on their existing contracts with Stake and SBOBet, respectively.

“The other seven clubs with gambling companies’ backing remain in the market.”

It would be a major win for the club commercially if they are to generate more from a new sponsor.

Fulham face an otherwise fairly turbulent summer, with Marco Silva still yet to agree to a deal offered to him in October and with players, including star man Harry Wilson, also not tied to beyond the end of this season.

With the possibility of losing Silva, Wilson and Raul Jimenez, who himself has nine goals this season, second only to Wilson’s 10, it could be one of massive change.

A small off-field win will not make up for the departures of those three core members of the current Fulham set-up, but it is an impressive feat nonetheless should it be completed.
