Fulham are in action in the Carabao Cup second round on Thursday night against League One side AFC Wimbledon.

Following a challenging opening Premier League clash, in which the Cottagers fell to a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea, attention now turns to the Carabao Cup and another meeting against local opposition at Craven Cottage.

Fulham will be hoping to get their first win of the season and book their third-round tie, which will be the winner of Thursday night’s battle against West Ham, at the London Stadium.

But, with the Cottagers taking on a team they do not usually face, what happened the last time the two sides met?

This fixture between the two clubs will be the first time in over 25 years that they have met.

That fixture occurred when the two sides were still in the old Division One, now known as the Championship.

Fulham, having been top of the table since matchday two, had already long secured promotion to the Premier League, having beaten the Dons 3-0 in the away leg of the fixture earlier in the season.

Already on 100 points, the Cottagers, managed by Jean Tigana, named a strong side which included league top scorer Louis Saha.

Despite this, though, they fell behind in the 74th minute, when Jamaican forward Jason Euell scored from the spot.

As they had been throughout though, losing only five times across the 46-game season, Fulham showed just why they had been so successful and bounced back with a penalty of their own from Luis Boa Morte.

That was enough for them to share the spoils and take Fulham to 101 points, while Wimbledon would end up missing out on the play-offs and their own chance of promotion to the top flight.

That was the last time the two sides met, with Fulham and AFC Wimbledon going on drastically different journeys since that day.

How many other times have the sides met?

The two sides have actually only met on 11 occasions, with league matches between AFC Wimbledon and Fulham extremely rare.

In fact, they have met only eight times in the league, twice in Division One, four times in Division Two and twice in Division Three.

Fulham and AFC Wimbledon have also met in the FA Cup three times, with Fulham advancing from both of those ties, winning a replay 6-0 in 1930 and winning 3-0 in 2000.

Overall, Fulham won six of the 11 clashes, there have been three draws and Wimbledon have won on just two occasions.
