Fulham may not have enjoyed the best of weekends in the Premier League with a defeat to Bournemouth but they did at least have the return of winger Kevin to the field.
Fulham’s European dreams hang by a thread after a 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth at the weekend, but there was one positive: the return of Kevin to the team.
The Brazilian winger had been out injured since February with a fractured metatarsal and was said to be out for the season but came back to fitness early.
Marco Silva said he was ‘in contention’ to return to the Fulham fold and he duly came on and made his first appearance for the Cottagers since February 22.
Immediately, he showed what Fulham have been missing, with his directness and ability to not only take a man on but beat them.
Now, Fulham can still finish eighth, which may well be enough for Conference League football next season if Manchester City beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
The Cottagers are three points behind Brentford, who currently occupy eighth spot.
But, following a 3-0 loss to Manchester City, the Bees still have to face Crystal Palace and Liverpool in their final two matches.
Fulham on the other hand, have matches against bottom-of-the-league Wolves and a Newcastle side who are among the worst in the league away from home.
So, there is very much plenty to play for.
And that is where Kevin comes in.
The Brazilian is a spark for Fulham and has shown that when allowed to take to the field.
His effort was brilliantly saved by Djordje Petrovic is a prime example of just what he can do when allowed to prosper.
Normally, if the season was coming to an end, you may think that with a player just back from a serious injury, it is better to continue to ease him back into Premier League football.
But now Fulham have a higher cause, and that may well get rid of that plan.
With Fulham lacking distinctly in the goals department, having scored just one goal in their last five Premier League matches, Kevin is what is required.
Not only does he have goal threat, but he creates more space for others with his movement and the fact that he is so dangerous.
Samuel Chukwueze has struggled in recent weeks and Harry Wilson’s form has dipped significantly since the last international break.
Rodrigo Muniz and Raul Jimenez are both struggling in front of goal.
Kevin could unlock the Fulham attack just in time to push them into the European places or at the very least, make the final matches of the season a fun watch.
Fulham have lacked Brazilian flair this season, now maybe it can save them.
