Fulham forward Raul Jimenez did not rule out signing a new deal at Craven Cottage this summer.
The Mexican forward, who celebrates his 35th birthday on Tuesday, has just weeks remaining on his contract at Fulham and many expected that he would be parting ways with the west London club this summer.
But, after a season in which he has shown he is still perfectly capable of being a hugely useful member of the Fulham squad, it appears there is now a chance he could end up staying at Craven Cottage.
Jimenez has bagged nine goals and three assists for Fulham this season in the Premier League and is the club’s second top scorer behind only Harry Wilson, who has 10.
There are many expectations that Jimenez will make a return to his boyhood club, Club America, in his native Mexico, where he played between 2011 and 2014.
But, when speaking to Fox Sports Mexico, Jimenez did not rule out signing a new deal at Craven Cottage.
He said: “I don’t know yet… we’re still working on everything.
“There’s time, and we’ll see what happens in the next few games.”
“It depends a lot on what Fulham decides, on negotiations, on an offer being made, and then we’ll analyse what’s best.”
Fulham still have three more matches remaining in the Premier League this season before Jimenez’s current contract comes to an end.
They are still in with a chance of reaching European football for the first time since 2012, but a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal last weekend hardly helped their cause.
Now the club have crunch matches against Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle to come and face an uphill battle to finish in the top eight due to their inferior goal difference.
Raul Jimenez has nine Premier League goals this season. Two of those matches, Bournemouth and Newcastle on the final day, do come at Craven Cottage, where Fulham have been so strong all season, winning 10 of their 17 matches.
That gives fans and Jimenez alike hope they can still achieve something special this season.
The Mexican said: “We needed to start the game better; the first half was very weak, but that’s the Premier League, and we can’t let up.
“We still have three games left. I’m aware that I need to be more, everyone, the whole team, more focused in these kinds of games.
“We’re in the final stretch, and we still want to be in those positions.”
