Ryan Sessegnon said he was ‘excited’ for the future and ‘delighted’ to sign a new contract at Fulham and called his goal against Aston Villa a ‘typical Ryan Sessegnon goal.’
Ryan Sessegnon spoke of how he is ‘excited’ for the future at Fulham and revealed he is ‘delighted’ to have signed a new contract at Craven Cottage.
The 25-year-old signed on for the optional third year of his contract last week to keep him at Fulham until the end of the 2026/27 season at the earliest.
And Sessegnon capped off an incredible week with a well-taken and composed finish shortly before half-time to hand Fulham a hugely important three points in their pursuit of European football.
Sessegnon joined Fulham at the age of eight and remained there until he was 19, when he signed a five year contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
Things did not work out for him in north London though and he found himself on loan at Hoffenheim in the 2020/21 season.
In 2024, he re-joined Fulham and he has regained some of his very best form again at his boyhood club.
Understandably, Sessegnon spoke of his joy at signing on for another year in west London.
“[It’s been a] very good week, a nice way to top it off,” he said.
“Obviously delighted to extend my stay at the club and yeah I am very excited and happy for the future.”
Scoring in his first match since signing a new contract was a fitting way for Sessegnon to make the occasion.
It was even more fitting that he did so in a match at Craven Cottage and in a match of so much importance too.
In the end, such was the level of the overall team performance, Sessegnon found himself watching on as the player of the match award was presented to captain Joachim Andersen.
But there can be no doubting that the former England U21 star played his part in Fulham’s first win in over a month.
“I am happy that I was able to help the team with an important goal and we managed to grind it out to get the 1-0 win,” Sessegnon added.
“I would say it is a typical Ryan Sessegnon goal, you know, following up the play, anticipating where the ball is going to bounce and I am happy that I got good contact, kept low and thankfully it went in.
“Every man can look in the mirror today and be happy with what they did and it is big team efforts like that that we need for the last four games.”
