Tom Masters explains how Roberto Firmino could end up at Craven Cottage this summer.

Fulham are preparing to offer Brazilian Roberto Firmino a lifeline should he decide to return to English football.

According to Sportsboom, Firmino could opt out of his current deal with Qatari side Al Sadd due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Fulham are in the market for at least one striker this summer, with interest in the Republic of Ireland’s hero Troy Parrott and USA striker Ricardo Pepi already declared.

With Raul Jimenez likely to leave the club when his contract expires in June, Fulham are looking at options and Firmino could be that man, according to the article.

It is thought Firmino could slip straight into the starting XI for the Cottagers, with his similar ability and characteristics to Raul Jimenez and his Premier League experience with Liverpool.

He also would allow Fulham to chase a long-term option, either coming in as well should Rodrigo Muniz be moved on, or in the future.

At 34, Firmino is clearly not a long-term solution, but if Jimenez leaves, he could provide top-quality coverage for a season.

Firmino has remained in the same sort of form that caught the eye so much at Liverpool ever since he left Anfield.

He has bagged 10 goals in 18 appearances for Al Sadd, following a season where he scored 12 goals in 31 matches in all competitions for Saudi side Al-Ahli.

He scored 17 goals in 55 matches for Brazil, who he last represented in the 2021 Copa America final, in which Brazil were defeated by Argentina.

It was in the Premier League that Firmino is best known though, with 82 goals and 51 assists in 256 matches for Liverpool.

In that time he won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup, as well as the UEFA Supercup, Club World Cup and Community Shield.

His experience playing at the highest level could prove invaluable should Fulham achieve their goal this season and reach European football.

Firmino’s most prolific season saw him score 15 goals in the 2017/18 season, a total Fulham would love to have on their side.

Raul Jimenez currently has nine goals this campaign, with Harry Wilson one better on 10.

Firmino, like all of Fulham’s transfer targets this summer may be deterred by the uncertainy surrounding Marco Silva’s own destiny.

The Portuguese has admirers from several clubs across Europe, including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, who could both be in the market for new managers come the summer.
