As the business end of the season gets hotter and hotter and the World Cup approaches, so do the transfer rumours and according to Telegraph Sport, Spanish right back Oscar Mingueza is being courted by a number of English clubs, which include Fulham.

Tom Masters explains Fulham's interest in Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza.

Fulham have joined the race to sign Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza this summer.

Mingueza, a versatile defender who can operate across the defensive line, is a free agent this summer and has attracted attention from a whole host of Premier League clubs.

The defender was a member of the famous La Masia academy of Barcelona, joining Celta Vigo in 2022.

Now though, the four-time Spanish international’s contract is expiring and he is not looking to renew, which has seen him emerge as a budget option for teams looking for versatile defensive coverage.

According to Matt Law of Telegraph Sport, Fulham are one of three clubs who are particularly keen on Mingueza, with Arsenal and Aston Villa also keeping tabs on the 26-year-old.

Juventus are another club who are looking to bolster their side after another largely disappointing season, in which they have failed to challenge for either the league or in the Champions League.

Mingueza recently signed with English agency Unique Sports Group and it is for that reason that a move to the Premier League seems more likely than elsewhere.

In the article, Law states: “Fulham could probably offer Mingeuza the biggest guarantee of joining as a regular starter although, unlike Arsenal and Villa, the London club are not on course to qualify for Europe next season.

“Unique has a number of Fulham players, including Harry Wilson, on its books but the agency has also brokered a number of deals involving Arsenal and Villa over the years.

“Villa are one of the clubs interested in Wilson, who is also out of contract at the end of the season.”

It would appear by Fulham’s links with both Mingueza and with Axel Disasi that the Fulham hierarchy are after a versatile defender who can cover both right back and centre back.

This is despite the Cottagers being well stocked in both departments, with four centre-backs of Premier League quality and a right-back duo of Kenny Tete and Timothy Castagne.

It could potentially point to one or more of the centre backs - Calvin Bassey, Joachim Andersen, Issa Diop and Jorge Cuenca - moving on this summer, though there are no indications that suggest anything of the sort at this stage.

With The Cottagers set to lose Harry Wilson and Raul Jimenez to free agency this summer, and possibly also manager Marco Silva with no compensation, it would make sense for the club to also look to benefit their stocks with a quality player on a Bosman deal.
