Fulham are one of many clubs courting Sporting Lisbon’s Mozambique international Geny Catamo.
The 25-year-old has become an important member of the side after injuries to key personnel, including Chelsea-bound Geovany Quenda.
Those injuries have ultimately put an end to Sporting’s hopes of winning a third consecutive league title but they have allowed Catamo to step up and showcase his potential.
Catamo has scored six goals and assisted four more in 27 league appearances, as well as a goal and assist in 11 Champions League matches.
But, with interest from clubs around Europe, Sporting may yet be in a position to sell Catamo if the bid is right.
He is under contract until 2029, having earned a significant pay rise due to his performances and becoming a first-team player for Sporting.
Fulham, according to Marco Goncalves of Portuguese outlet O Jogo, are one of three Premier League sides that have shown interest, alongside both Aston Villa and Burnley.
With Burnley now confirmed to be relegated, they are no longer in the race, while Aston Villa’s interest has reportedly cooled.
But there is significant interest in Italy, with his number of suitors only growing and now including the likes of Atalanta and Napoli, as well as Fiorentina.
In Goncalves’ article, he states: “Enjoying the best season of his career, Geny Catamo is attracting interest at the European level, particularly in Italy, where the list of suitors is growing.
“In addition to Atalanta and Napoli, who were already closely following the Mozambican international's performance in January, Fiorentina has also joined the list of clubs interested in the Sporting Lisbon number 10.
“However, besides Italy, there are also Premier League clubs eyeing the Mozambican international, admitting they are willing to pursue the signing of the winger, an indisputable player for Rui Borges in 2025/26, after having gained status as a Sporting Lisbon player during the Rúben Amorim era.
“Aston Villa [at the beginning of the season], Fulham and Burnley, as our newspaper reported, observed Geny Catamo, although the Clarets have already been relegated to the Championship, which is why they are now out of the running.”
Catamo would be an exciting addition to an already generally fairly exciting attacking unit that Fulham possess, but should Sporting not wish to sell, he has a release clause of €60 million which would be by some margin Fulham’s record transfer fee.
But, he is another one to keep an eye on as Fulham’s transfer saga continues.
