Daniel Farke's men look to bounce back from their 0-0 draw against the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light last weekend, as they prepare to travel to the Southcoast to take on Marco Rose's in-form Cherries.

In their previous match, Leeds travelled to the North-East, where they faced Sunderland on Super Sunday at the Stadium of Light.

In a game which saw both sides defend admirably, James Trafford came out on top from the Whites roster, providing many impressive shot stopping saves to prevent the Sunderland enslaught.

However, the big worry for Farke after the fixture will be Leeds' struggle to break down Sunderland's defence. It is also key to bare in mind that this is not as Sunderland side pushing for a place in the top half of the Premier League, like last summer, it is a side that currently find themselves placed 20th in the league.

It has also been the area most would say Farke's side have struggled with this season, whereas, with the additions of Tarik Muharemovic and James Trafford, defensively Leeds have looked a lot stronger and it has shown with their improved defensive record so far this campaign.

The Opposition

This weekend sees Leeds United take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League, who are currently under the guidance of Spaniard Marco Rose.

Rose took charge of the Cherries in the summer, following the departure of Andoni Iraola to Liverpool, after spenidng just three months out the game since his sacking at RB Leipzig.

Coming into a Bournemouth side that was playing good football and developing well under Iraola, many questioned if Rose would be able to carry this on and be the right appointment.

But with just eight games played in the Premier League and three in the Europa League (their first time in European football), Bournemouth fans couldn't be happier.

Coming into today's game, they find themselves with a run of five wins in a row, playing AC Milan, Manchester United and Aston Villa consecutively.

Leeds will be hoping to buck this trend and know that a point would be a good result at the Vitality.

A star man this year has been Marcus Tavernier, a real thorn for the Cherries this season, scoring five goals in eight league games, whilst also netting once in the Europa League too.

Beginning his career back in the North East at Middlesbrough, he broke through and made his debut for the club in the 2017-18 campaign, making just two appearances in the first team before being loaned out to MK Dons for the remainder of the campaign.

Following on from this, he then went on to spend four years in the Boro first team, becoming a key player and developing along the way, before transferring to the Vitality Stadium in 2022.

Since joining Bournemouth, he has been a consistent performer for the Cherries, averaging around 10 goals and assists in all competitions.

Now, this season with six goals in 13 games so far, he is well on his way to surpassing that milestone this season.

Foot in Both Camps

Two players who have represented both Leeds United and Bournemouth are Lewis Cook and Tyler Adams, with both midfielders having experienced spells at Elland Road before making the move to the south coast.

Cook came through the Leeds United academy and made his first-team debut in 2014, quickly establishing himself as one of the club’s most promising young talents.

He went on to make 85 appearances for the Whites before joining Bournemouth in the summer of 2016, where he has since become an important figure, helped secure promotion to the Premier League, and established himself in the Cherries' midfield.

The American international arrived at Elland Road from RB Leipzig in July 2022, reuniting with former manager Jesse Marsch, having previously worked together in Germany.

Adams quickly became a key figure in the Leeds midfield, making 26 appearances in all competitions during his only season at the club, including 24 in the Premier League.

Following the Whites' relegation, he made the move to Bournemouth in August 2023, signing a five-year contract. Despite an injury-disrupted start to life on the south coast, Adams established himself as an important member of Andoni Iraola's midfield, bringing his trademark energy and defensive qualities to the Cherries.

Now under Rose, Adams has become an even more integral part of the Cherries' midfield, with 12 appearances this season.

Leeds United Injury News

Daniel Farke has provided a largely positive injury update ahead of Leeds United’s trip to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth, with Nico Elvedi, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor all expected to be available for selection.

Elvedi missed the Whites' goalless draw with Sunderland before the international break after falling ill but has since returned to training and is in contention to feature against the Cherries.

“Nico is way better,” Farke explained at Thorp Arch. “He is back in training. As it stands, he is available for this game.”

There was further encouragement regarding Calvert-Lewin and Okafor, with both forwards having enjoyed a full week of training after previously carrying injury concerns.

“Also, a good training week for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor. They had a normal training week. It seems if nothing happens, they are also fully available,” the Leeds boss added.

However, Anton Stach remains a doubt for the weekend fixture as he continues to struggle with a foot injury.

Farke is hopeful the German midfielder will make sufficient progress over the next 48 hours, although his availability remains uncertain.

“Anton Stach is struggling still a bit with his foot injury so, yeah, let's see. I hope it will get better in the next 48 hours. That is a bit of a question mark.”

There was also positive news concerning Joe Rodon, who is edging closer to a return after being sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The Welsh international has now begun a gradual reintegration into first-team training, although Saturday's encounter is likely to come too soon.

“And also some good news with Joe. He is since yesterday part-integrated back in team training, [taking] the next steps in his rehab right now,” Farke continued.

“He just needs session after session after being out for so long but a way better situation than it was last week. So probably too soon for this weekend but sooner rather than later.”

With Elvedi, Calvert-Lewin and Okafor all closing in on full availability, Leeds head to the south coast with a healthier squad, although Stach's fitness will remain a late decision and Rodon is still working towards his comeback.
