Wilfried Gnonto has been granted permission to travel to Florence amid growing interest from Fiorentina, but Leeds United are not prepared to sanction his departure unless they secure a replacement of their own. Mykhailo Mudryk is among the attacking targets being explored by the Whites.
Leeds United have granted Wilfried Gnonto permission to travel to Florence as interest from Fiorentina in the Italian international continues to develop.
However, sources close to the club have stressed that Gnonto’s potential departure remains dependent on Leeds securing a replacement before allowing the forward to leave Elland Road.
Italian media, alongside Sky Sports, have reported that Fiorentina and Leeds have agreed a loan deal which would include an option to make the move permanent.
Sources at Elland Road, though, maintain that no agreement had been reached as of Monday lunchtime, with Gnonto not expected to leave West Yorkshire unless United are able to bring in another attacking option.
The decision to allow the 22-year-old to travel to Florence is therefore understood to be precautionary, ensuring that he is in a position to complete a move quickly should Leeds successfully secure a replacement of their own before the transfer window closes.
Gnonto has been the subject of speculation over his future throughout the latter stages of the window, with a return to Serie A potentially offering the Italian a new opportunity after his time in England.
Fiorentina’s interest appears to be genuine, but Leeds remain determined not to weaken their attacking options without having a replacement ready to arrive.
One name to have gained significant traction in recent days is Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk.
Leeds are reportedly keen on a loan move for the Ukraine international, with the Whites exploring the possibility of bringing him to Elland Road.
However, there is competition for Mudryk’s signature and no agreement has yet been reached with Chelsea.
That leaves Gnonto’s situation delicately balanced heading into the final stages of the transfer window.
While Fiorentina appear to be positioning themselves to complete a deal, Leeds’ stance remains clear: Gnonto will only be allowed to leave if Daniel Farke’s side can guarantee they have strengthened their attacking options in his place.
For now, his trip to Florence should not be viewed as confirmation that a transfer has been completed. Instead, it leaves the Italian ready to finalise a potential move should Leeds secure the replacement they believe is necessary before sanctioning his departure.
