Leeds United Women were forced to settle for a point against AFC Fylde Women in the FA Women's National League Division One North, despite a dominant second-half display and several opportunities to snatch a late winner.

Leeds United Women were held to a 0-0 draw by AFC Fylde Women at Kellamergh Park on Sunday afternoon, with Simon Wood's side unable to find a breakthrough despite piling on the pressure in the second half of their FA Women's National League Division One North encounter.

The Whites produced a determined performance against their fellow promotion contenders, creating several promising opportunities after the interval, but a resilient Fylde defence and some crucial interventions ensured the points were shared.

Wood made one change to the side that started the contest, with Ella Harris coming into midfield in place of Brittany Sanderson as Leeds looked to make a positive statement in the top-of-the-table clash.

Both teams started brightly, with Leeds creating the first opportunities of the afternoon. Monique Watson showed her quality on the edge of the penalty area, cutting inside before curling an effort towards goal, but Fylde goalkeeper Isabella Heyworth was equal to the attempt.

Drew Greene then made progress down the right flank, finding Alayna Millard in space behind the defence. However, the resulting cross was dealt with by the hosts as Leeds continued to search for an early breakthrough.

Fylde responded with opportunities of their own, as Kenzie Bentley beat Holly Mears to a loose ball before rounding the Leeds goalkeeper, only to drag her effort wide of the far post.

Lauryn Wood subsequently threatened in the channel, forcing Mears to come off her line and smother the ball.

The Fylde forward continued to cause problems and later fired narrowly over the crossbar as the hosts enjoyed a spell of attacking pressure.

After an eventful opening 20 minutes, the game became increasingly disrupted by fouls and injuries, although both sides continued to look for an opening.

Leeds were fortunate not to fall behind when a deep corner found a Fylde player in space, with her header seemingly destined for the net before Millard produced a crucial goal-line clearance.

The visitors responded before the break, with Chloe Dixon delivering a corner into a crowded penalty area.

The ball struck the post amid the scramble, offering Leeds a significant opportunity to take the lead before half-time.

Leeds emerged for the second half with greater attacking intent, enjoying a prolonged spell down the right as Drew Greene and Amy Woodruff combined to work their way into the penalty area.

Fylde's defence intervened, but the visitors continued to apply pressure through their high press.

Watson remained a threat on the opposite flank, receiving possession from Dixon before beating her marker and breaking into the box.

Her attempted cross was intercepted, but Leeds were increasingly forcing the hosts onto the back foot.

Wood introduced Izzy Dean for Harris with around 30 minutes remaining, and the substitute quickly made her presence felt by driving the ball into the penalty area and winning a corner.

Heyworth produced an important save from the resulting delivery to keep the scores level.

Dean continued to threaten, finding space on the edge of the area before seeing her shot blocked by three Fylde defenders who threw themselves in front of the effort.

Kath Smith, introduced for Watson, then delivered a dangerous ball towards Woodruff, but the forward was unable to make contact with the cross before Heyworth collected.

Leeds came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock when fellow substitute Ava Spencer-Smith collected a loose ball and rounded the goalkeeper.

However, a Fylde defender recovered in time to clear the effort off the line and preserve the hosts' clean sheet.

The Whites continued to search for a winner, with Woodruff later getting in behind the defence following a neat combination involving Emily Cassidy, Dean and Spencer-Smith, although her cross went straight into Heyworth's hands.

Leeds' final opportunity came in stoppage time when Darcie Greene won a corner on the left.

Abi Coley's delivery was met inside the penalty area, but Fylde cleared their lines before the referee brought proceedings to an end.

Despite their second-half dominance and several close calls, Leeds were unable to find the decisive goal and had to settle for a point on the road.
