Andoni Iraola and Liverpool emerged victorious from a tough opener against Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid. With goals from midfield duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister enough to cancel out Marcos Llorente's opener for the Spanish side and ensure the Reds got off to a winning start in the UCL.

Here are our LFC player ratings, with everyone's performance rated out of 10 following a fascinating Champions League fixture.

Alisson Becker - 7/10

Made an important save in the first half, and couldn't have done much about Atletico Madrid's goal.

Milos Kerkez - 5/10

A roller coaster of a game for LFC's left back, let his man in Marcos Llorente get ahead of him for the Atletico goal, but won the ball back high up the pitch and helped towards the equaliser.

Virgil van Dijk - 7/10

Wasn't at fault for the goal conceded, an steady performance from the skipper.

Jeremy Jacquet - 7/10

Similar to Van Dijk, could do little about the opening goal of the game, but a solid overall performance.

Ronald Araujo - 7.5/10

Dealt with the threat posed by Giuliano Simeone and flicked a ball through to Szoboszlai for the Reds' leveller.

Alexis Mac Allister - 8.5/10

Despite the midfielder's upset at not being offered a new deal at the club, the Argentine had a fantastic game, played the role of a deeper-lying midfielder well, and capped his performance off with a wonderful goal to win the game.

Dominik Szoboszlai - 8.5/10

As always work rate in abundance, and quality both defensively and offensively, and secured the goal to get Liverpool back into the game.

Bradley Barcola - 7/10

Looked lively throughout his 58 minutes on the pitch, could have had two goals, but showed real quality when he had the ball, hopefully more to come from the summer signing.

Florian Wirtz - 7.5/10

A very good game from Anfield's number seven, his pressing and winning the ball back were impressive, especially in the first half, could have had a goal and an assist if he and Barcola had finished their chances.

Rio Ngumoha - 5/10

Struggled to get into the game, was marshalled well by Atletico Madrid and Marcos Llorente in particular.

Alexander Isak - 5/10

Didn't get many opportunities to get shots off, and had a quiet game overall.

Substitutes:

Jeremie Frimpong - 5.5/10

Had nothing to do given how late he came on.

Author's Verdict - Player of The Match - Alexis Mac Allister

Another strong performance from Liverpool's number 10 as he continues his bright start to the season, timed his runs forward well, knew when to stay back, and scored a thunderous strike to win the Champions League opener for LFC. If he continues to play like this, he will start making the Anfield hierarchy question their decision to not offer him a new deal over the summer.
