Liverpool are officially in the market for a new head coach after the club sacked Arne Slot earlier today. However, Arne Slot already has interest from one of Europe's biggest and most historic clubs.
As reported by Sacha Tavolieri this morning, former Liverpool manager Arne Slot is now considered the leading candidate to become the next AC Milan head coach. This comes just hours after the breaking news that Arne Slot has parted ways with Liverpool.
AC Milan sacked their former manager, Massimiliano Allegri, on May 25th after he missed out on Champions League qualification by one point to Como.
Allegri was initially appointed for his second stint at Milan in May 2025, after a successful run at the club starting in 2010, after which time he departed for Juventus. He is set to take over at Napoli this summer.
What does Slot bring to Milan?
The Dutchman's style of play suits Serie A very well; possession-based play has historically fared well in the Italian top flight. His playstyle is rooted in positional play, with a high-tempo build-up and structured pressing.
He made history at Liverpool by winning their second league title in five years, only one year after the departure of legendary Liverpool manager JĂĽrgen Klopp.
Since then, Slot’s title-winning side has been dismantled, and after a season of the lowest lows, including a record 20 losses in all competitions, the decision was made to part ways with Slot.

Compounding on that, there was a big change in the personnel Slot had at his disposal, with big names such as Luis Diaz and Darwin Núñez departing the club, and a load of new players coming into the club, with Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, and Hugo Ekitike being the marquee signings of a new-look Liverpool.
Slot’s side struggled with injuries throughout the entirety of the campaign, with Isak struggling to find consistent game time, as well as the achilles injury sustained by Hugo Ekitike in the second leg against PSG.
With Liverpool struggling to maintain consistency in their style of play and their loss of identity throughout the season, tension formed in the dressing room, boiling over when Salah spoke out against Slot, once in a press conference midway through the season, and again in a tweet indirectly aimed at the head coach towards the end of the season.

I think Arne Slot will succeed at Milan. His style of play fits the league well, and he has a lot of tools at his disposal with the Italian side. The former Liverpool head coach would also start the season in the Europa League, which would give him a great opportunity to win a big trophy early on in his stay in Italy.
He will need to be wary, as Milan (unlike Liverpool) tends to be okay with sacking managers when things start to go wrong. He won’t be given the time he was at Anfield if performances are not up to standard.
Slot will leave Liverpool with his legacy intact, after bringing the Reds back to the top and securing their 20th league title.
