Bradley Barcola Decides Against New PSG Contract as Liverpool Learn Eye-Watering Asking Price

The French international has been the subject of high interest from LFC this summer, amongst other clubs, but it is the Reds that are said to have been frontrunners for his signature this summer, should PSG allow him to leave.

The dynamic attacking winger became a top priority for Liverpool following the failed attempt at signing RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, after the German club knocked back Liverpool's bid of around €116 million (£99 million) earlier in the transfer window.

Today, it has been reported initially by French outlet L'Equipe that Baradley Barcola has no intention to sign a new deal at PSG and wishes to explore his options this summer.

This represents a breakthrough for Liverpool in their summer pursuit of Barcola, as his current deal with the Parisian club expires in 2028 and PSG will not want to let that deal run into the final year.

Furthermore, should Barcola not sign a new deal like has been reported today, then his value is only going to drop after this summer, so this represents the best opportunity for Paris Saint-Germain to get the very most for a player they signed for €45 million (£38 million) in the 2023 summer transfer window from fellow French outfit Lyon. 

L'Equipe goes on to say that the decision made by Bardley Barcola is one of pure sporting reasons, as the contract that PSG put in front of Barcola had a significant pay rise within it, so money had nothing to do with Barcola's thinking. 

It has then been reported by Santi Aouna, a French Journalist, that Bradley Barcola has prioritised a move to Merseyside to play under Andoni Iraola should Liverpool and PSG manage to agree a fee for him.

The project under Iraola is said to be appealing to the player, who is looking to be a regular starter somewhere to push forward his career, something PSG are not able to provide guarantees over.

These reports were followed by confirmation of all of this from the highly reliable Fabrizio Romano, who stated that Liverpool have been a long-term interested party in Bradley Barcola since April, and the player himself is open to the move, but a deal needs to be done with both clubs. 

An exact number as to how much Liverpool would need to pay to get this deal done remains unclear, with different journalists reporting slightly different figures. 

According to Ben Jacobs, PSG value Bradley Barcola at a whopping €170 million as the reigning Champions League winners are said to be using the recent transfers of Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers as their guide as to how much Barcola is worth in today's market.

Ben Jacobs goes on to say the figure is factoring in that Barcola is a back-to-back Champions League winner, had a successful individual World Cup performance, is only 23 years old and the fact that Liverpool are not the only club said to be interested in Bradley Barcola this summer. 

Contrary to this report is one from Loic Tanzi, a journalist for L'Equipe, who states that PSG would listen to offers of €120 million. 

Regardless of the exact numbers, what is clear is that PSG would be open to a sale, the player would be open to a move, and it is likely to cost Liverpool in excess of £100 million to get the deal done. However, what Liverpool and their owners, FSG, have shown in the past is that they are willing to spend big when they believe that the player is worth that big fee, as shown with the deals last summer of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. 

So there isn't much doubt that should Liverpool deem Barcola worth the number PSG place on him, they will come to the table and try and reach a deal, but now the question is, what will PSG's ultimate number be and are LFC going to see that value in Barcola to pay that fee set by PSG?
