“It’s maybe my biggest day.
“There are a couple in front of it, probably when I signed for Liverpool the first one and when I got my baby, of course, but in my football career, I can say this is in the top three.

“There’s always more to come.”

Despite securing his future at Anfield, Szoboszlai insisted he has no intention of becoming comfortable.

The 25-year-old has previously spoken about using criticism as motivation, and his latest comments reinforced the mentality that has made him such an important figure within Liverpool’s squad.

“Very happy, I can’t wait to go again and again and again. I’m just happy to be here.”

However, the midfielder quickly made it clear he still believes there is another level to reach, and asked whether he was satisfied with his own performances, Szoboszlai explained why he continues to push himself.

“There’s always more to come. I’m never happy, I’m happy with myself but I think I can do even better.”
“I think that’s why I’m sitting here, because that pushed me since I was a kid: that it was never enough.”

Setting standards

Szoboszlai also outlined the responsibility he now feels as one of Liverpool’s senior figures.

“I want to set the example.
“I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can.”

Those comments are likely to resonate with supporters after the midfielder recently agreed a new contract during a period of transition at the club.

With several experienced players having departed in recent seasons, Szoboszlai has increasingly emerged as one of the faces of Liverpool’s next generation.

Trophy ambitions remain unchanged

The Hungary captain finished by reaffirming the ambition he has held since arriving from RB Leipzig.

“When I signed, I said I want to win everything, that didn’t change for a little moment either.
“It stayed the same, I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let’s say the Champions League, I’m ready to go for it.”

For Liverpool supporters, those words may be just as encouraging as the contract itself.

The club have secured one of their most important players for the long term—and, judging by his own admission, Szoboszlai believes his best years at Anfield are still to come.
