Federico Chiesa has opened the door to a potential Liverpool exit this coming window after expressing his desire to play regular first-team football.
The Italian winger has endured an infuriating two campaigns at Anfield, struggling for opportunities and consistency following his arrival from Juventus.
Now, with Andoni Iraola through the foot, Chiesa has acknowledged that discussions over his future are likely to take place in the coming weeks.
Chiesa To Depart?
Speaking about his situation to the Gazzetta, the 28-year-old admitted a lack of playing time could force him to consider alternative options.
“I want to play regularly,” Chiesa explained. “If I don’t find continuity in the Premier League, I have to look elsewhere.”
Chiesa’s comments are highly unsurprising, as the Italian found opportunities difficult to come by over his duration as a Liverpool player, being unable to establish himself as a regular starter under Arne Slot, primarily utilised as an impact player off the bench.
Despite uncertainty surrounding his future, the Italian confirmed he will report for Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the United States before holding discussions with the club in regard to his future.
“The first year at Liverpool I practically didn’t play,” he said. “I’m going on the pre-season tour in the USA, then I’ll talk to the club and the new coach Iraola and we’ll see.”
The comments suggest no immediate decision has been made, but they do leave the possibility of a summer exit firmly open to discussion.
Juventus Admiration
Chiesa also spoke openly about his former club Juventus, admitting he would welcome a return to Turin one day.
“Juventus will always be in my heart, and I would love to return one day,” he said.
While a move back to Italy is only speculative at the minute, comments of magnitude about his former employers are likely to fuel further transfer discussion surrounding his future.
Chiesa On Curtis Jones
Elsewhere in the interview, Chiesa also hinted at interest from Inter Milan in Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.
The England international has been heavily linked with a move to the Serie A giants in recent months, and Chiesa revealed the pair had spoken about life in Italy.
“Jones asked me what it’s like living in Italy. I told him it’s brilliant and the weather’s much better than in Liverpool,” he joked.
Chiesa praised Jones’ ability and suggested Inter’s reported interest is understandable.
“Curtis is technically outstanding. Inter are right to be considering him.”
For Liverpool supporters, those comments will inevitably add further intrigue to speculation surrounding Jones’ future, as well as Chiesa’s amid a huge squad overhaul.
