Giovanni Leoni Injury Timeline
Giovanni Leoni signed for Liverpool from Parma on the 15th of August 2025 for a reported fee of 26 million pounds plus add-ons. Liverpool beat out fierce competition for the talented young Italian's signature, including from Serie A's most elite clubs.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Serie A giants Juventus maintain an active interest in Giovanni Leoni. The Bianconeri are said to have already enquired about a potential loan deal for the defender after his return from injury, but Liverpool are apparently unwilling to negotiate as they eagerly await the youngster's return to bolster their own defensive department.
However, that will not deter Juventus's directors. It is said that they plan for their scouts to monitor Leoni weekly for the rest of the season.
Leoni's Imminent Return in Red
Jack Lusby, for This is Anfield, has provided an update on Giovanni Leoni's return from injury, with the defender expected to resume full training in the next few days.
In relation to Juventus, Lusby says that Liverpool will not consider any move for the Italian defender. Rather, the plan is for him to be gradually reintegrated into Andoni Iraola's side, with the expectation being that he will become a long-term starting option.
Author's Verdict: A Formidable Future Partnership
Leoni's Man of the Match debut was cruelly cut short by injury but, in the time that he was on the pitch, he displayed exactly why Liverpool signed him. The idea that he will eventually partner Jeremy Jacquet - who has had a superb start to life at Liverpool - is an exciting one, assuming that his debut performance was truly indicative of his potential.
And there's no reason to believe otherwise. Leoni was extremely highly rated at Parma and has reportedly immersed himself deeply in the club during his time on the sidelines.
Gregg Evans, for The Athletic, has detailed Leoni's approach to his recovery: the young defender opted to spend as much time as possible completing his rehab at the club's training centre in order to keep building his relationships with teammates and club staff; meanwhile, he dedicated time away from football to improve his English language skills.
Such effort will only stand Leoni in good stead for his planned return to full training in the coming days.
