Jürgen Klopp Germany: When Will The Former Liverpool Manager Be Appointed?

After Germany's massively disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign, getting eliminated from the competition by South American side Paraguay on penalties in the Round of 32, the DFB (German FA) responded to this humiliation by sacking Julian Nagelsmann, with former Liverpool coach and icon Jurgen Klopp immediately emerging as the frontrunner and favourite for the job.

Jurgen Klopp, who had been working for German Broadcaster Magenta TV during the World Cup, was asked about the links to himself and the now vacant German National Team job: “Julian has stepped down, and the [federation] is working on the succession and has approached me in the course of those considerations.”

These talks have clearly moved quickly, and it was then confirmed via Florian Plettenberg on July 19th that the deal was complete for Jürgen Klopp to become German National Team Manager in a deal until after the 2030 World Cup. 

Klopp was then most recently asked about the German National team job at the World Cup Final last Sunday: “Nothing has been finalised yet. But the talks have gone well, and everything is moving in the right direction."

In the last few days, members of Klopp's backroom staff have been revealed by various reporters, as a few former LFC coaches are set to join Klopp's team. Former Liverpool first-team coach Peter Krawietz, who has long been Klopp's right-hand man, will join the charismatic German at the national team.

As well as Krawietz, former LFC assistant manager Pep Lijnders will join Klopp's coaching staff as well, following a failed attempt as a manager with RB Salzburg and being a coach for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City last season. 

And a final member who has been publicly reported as joining Klopp at the German National Side is former Borussia Dortmund and German International Sven Bender. Bender was playing for Dortmund while Klopp was manager of the German giants, and he clearly left a lasting impression on the legendary German coach. Bender joins following a season and a half as manager of 4th-tier German side Unterhaching. 

Despite reports all but confirming Jurgen Klopp's appointment to the national team as their new manager, an official announcement from the DFB is yet to come. However, the DFB have scheduled a press conference for tomorrow at 10 am UK time and has not stated what it is about. 

Therefore, many have joined the dots, and it is now heavily expected that the press conference will be where Jürgen Klopp will be officially announced by the DFB as the man to take the German National Team into Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.

This is by far the best appointment that the German FA could have made to take over the national team, following Julian Nagelsmann's dismissal. Only Jürgen Klopp can turn around a national team that has seemed void of direction and ideas for over a decade.

Furthermore, LFC and German fans will be hoping that Klopp has the keys to truly unlock players like Florian Wirtz on the international stage, as it is clear that the talent is there in the German national pool of players; they just need the best in class to put it all together, and Jurgen Klopp is certainly that.
