Liverpool Consider Further Reinforcements After Bradley Barcola Transfer as Cody Gakpo Exit Nears

After the blockbuster news this morning that Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign long-term target Bradley Barcola, the landscape surrounding Cody Gakpo's future has become clearer. Reports are now highlighting the diverging paths ahead of the Dutchman as the transfer window barrels towards its close on the 1st of September.

Fabrizio Romano, following his 'Here We Go' on Bradley Barcola's transfer to Liverpool earlier today, has confirmed that Tottenham and Manchester City have maintained constant contact to understand the possibilities surrounding the transfer of Cody Gakpo. Tottenham are said to already have a personal agreement in place with the player.

When it comes to Liverpool, Romano revealed the Reds' willingness to stick with the current squad in the case Gakpo isn't sold - only looking to sign a second winger (in addition to Bradley Barcola) if the Dutchman does leave the club.

However, that possibility looks increasingly likely. Rik Elfrink, the Dutch football journalist, has stated that the transfer of Gakpo to either Tottenham or Manchester City has become more likely in the wake of Barcola's impending transfer to the Reds. He also revealed that Andoni Iraola would like to keep Gakpo, but that the sale may be necessary to balance the books. PSV Eindhoven, Gakpo's former club, are set to receive a sell-on fee.

One Tottenham insider has predicted Gakpo's price tag to be in excess of 75 million pounds.

Cody Gakpo's Liverpool exit has been on the cards for some time, since the Reds were first linked with Bradley Barcola earlier this summer. Now that Barcola's transfer is finally set to be completed, that exit is beginning to feel inevitable.

Gakpo has been a good player for Liverpool, but his fit with Iraola's style remains in question despite a strong goal-scoring start to the season against Newcastle.
