Liverpool secured their place in the last eight following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday 28th October.

After a 1-1 draw, Cody Gakpo's first-half penalty cancelling out Morgan Rogers' opener, Liverpool held their nerve to win 6-5 on spot-kicks, with Joe Gomez converting the decisive effort before Wesley Fofana missed.

However, their reward is far from straightforward. Bournemouth arrive as one of the competition's most dangerous remaining sides, having dismantled Aston Villa 3-0 in the previous round.

Recent Encounters Favour Liverpool

The Reds have enjoyed considerable success against Bournemouth in recent years, although their encounters have rarely lacked drama.

Liverpool claimed a narrow 1-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium in September, courtesy of Alexander Isak's winner.

However, Bournemouth produced a memorable 3-2 triumph in January, with Amine Adli scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner after Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai had dragged Liverpool level.

Liverpool also recorded a thrilling 4-2 victory at Anfield in August 2025, highlighting the attacking threat both sides possess.

Bournemouth's Biggest Threats

Iraola will know better than most what awaits his Liverpool side. Amine Adli remains a particular danger, having scored against Liverpool in January and opened the scoring against Villa on Wednesday.

Brazilian forward Evanilson offers movement and a clinical presence in attack, while Marcus Tavernier's creativity and Rayan's pace could cause problems for Liverpool's defence.

Former Liverpool youngster Ben Doak also presents an intriguing threat should he feature against his old club.

Bournemouth have recorded five consecutive victories, including impressive wins over Manchester United and AC Milan, making them opponents Liverpool cannot afford to underestimate.

For Iraola, the occasion carries extra significance. The Spaniard admitted Bournemouth were the one side he had hoped to avoid.

With Anfield awaiting and a semi-final place at stake, Liverpool must overcome familiar opposition if their Wembley ambitions are to remain alive.
