Premier League: Matchday 6

Liverpool return to action this weekend, as they take on a Manchester City side with a lot of eyes on them, following the news surrounding their 115 charges.

The big topic going into this game will be about how Man City react on the pitch after being found guilty by the Premier League of 115 breaches of financial rules, with Liverpool one of the sides most affected by these breaches.

So with all the pressure being placed on the away side in this fixture, the Reds will be hoping that they can thrive and secure a huge win over their bitter rivals.

Liverpool v Manchester City (8th February 2026)

The last time these two sides met, it produced a thrilling encounter with late goals, red cards and drama until the very end, but it was the Citizens who came out on top.

City piled on the pressure, amid a title race with Arsenal, and found an equaliser via Bernardo Silva.

A penalty would be given in the 93rd minute for Manchester City after Alisson was judged to have fouled Matheus Nunes in the box, in which Erling Haaland clinically finished past the Brazilian goalkeeper to give his side a late winner.

The Merseyside club continued to push and forced a stunning stop from Donnarumma late in the game, before Dominik Szoboszlai was sent off for a tussle with Haaland as the pair charged towards the LFC goal.

But that would be that, a huge win for City, the final time Pep Guardiola would face the Anfield crowd as City boss, and a hammer blow for Liverpool in a game they led going into the final 10 minutes.

Last Time Out: Bournemouth v Liverpool

Before the international break, Andoni Iraola returned to his former club, Bournemouth, as he looked to bring three points back from the South Coast.

And thanks to a goal from Alexander Isak set up again by Cody Gakpo, three points are exactly what Iraola would get as a blunt Bournemouth side was punished for a lack of a clinical edge, with Liverpool winning 1-0.

Manchester City's Form

Enzo Maresca's side has been in fine form at the start of the season, with an unbeaten league season and the Champions League, as well as advancing in the Carabao Cup.

Despite the departure of Pep Guardiola in the summer, it clearly has not affected the team's performances so far this campaign.

But now that we have had a three-week break from club football, and the news of their 115 charges, an away trip to Anfield would not have been what Maresca and his team would have liked upon their return to action.
