Mohamed Salah may have begun a new chapter in Turkey, but his connection to Liverpool clearly hasn’t faded.
After nine years at Anfield, a period that cemented him as one of the club’s greatest ever players, Mohamed Salah has admitted that the idea of facing his former team would be far from straightforward.
The Egypt international left Liverpool as a free agent in June, bringing an end to one of the most decorated and influential spells in the club’s history.
Across his time at Liverpool, he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances, becoming The Reds' third‑highest scorer of all time and a driving force behind an era of major success, a legacy defined by trophies, records and moments that will be remembered for generations.
Now settling into life at Trabzonspor, Salah has spoken openly about what it would mean to face the club where he became a global superstar.
Why Facing Liverpool Would Feel “Tricky”
Speaking to Trabzonspor’s in‑house media, Mohamed Salah didn’t shy away from the emotional side of potentially facing The Reds. After nearly a decade at Anfield, he admitted the prospect would be anything but simple.
“I would feel mixed feelings, It’s mixed feelings because I’ve been there nine years.
I love the city, I love the fans, and we always had a special relationship, so it would be very tricky!”
And it’s fair to say the feeling wouldn’t just be tricky for Salah.
Liverpool supporters have spent years watching the Egyptian King light up the right‑hand side, scoring huge goals and driving the club to major success.
Seeing him line up against Liverpool would be just as strange for the fans as it would be for Salah himself.
Could Liverpool Face Salah This Season?
The answer is no, Salah will not be facing Liverpool this season.
The only realistic ways the two could meet would be through a pre‑season friendly or a European competition.
A friendly would require both clubs to agree to it and, with pre‑season already finished, that opportunity has already passed.
The European route is also closed for this campaign, as Liverpool are competing in the Champions League while Trabzonspor are playing in the Conference League, a competition Salah is featuring in for the first time in his career.
With both clubs locked into different UEFA tournaments, there is no pathway for their schedules to overlap.
Any potential meeting would have to wait for future seasons.
How Salah Has Settled At Trabzonspor?
Salah has started well for his new club, scoring four goals in his first four league games, which makes it clear he’s settled quickly and is already delivering in front of goal.
He isn’t alone in this new chapter. Former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has also joined the club, while Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has arrived on loan. The environment is new, but Salah has familiar faces around him.
It’s only been a month into his two‑year contract, but the early signs suggest he’s settling well, finding the net and becoming a central figure in Trabzonspor’s attack.
The team around him is still finding its rhythm, but Salah’s individual impact is already clear.
