Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Scottish captain Andrew Robertson. Robertson spent 9 seasons at Liverpool FC, cementing himself as a legend, but moved on to make way for Milos Kerkez.
Official news this afternoon is that a Liverpool legend has joined Tottenham Hotspur. The left-back joins the London club following the end of his contract at the Reds.
The announcement came at 1 pm, with Michael Dawson featured in the video. Michael Dawson used to captain Andy Robertson during their time together at Hull City.
Judging by the reactions, Spurs fans seem to be delighted. They narrowly avoided relegation in the 25/26 Premier League season, so with Andy Robertson’s experience, they’d be hoping to have a complete turnaround for their next campaign.
How the transfer came about
At the start of the 25/26 season, Andy Robertson was heading into his final year at Liverpool. The introduction of new signing Milos Kerkez meant that the Scotsman was no longer the number one choice at left back.
There were rumours that he was going to be joining Trent Alexander-Arnold in Madrid. He’d be playing for their rivals, however, at Atletico, but the move didn’t happen.
Robertson came out in an interview expressing how it was the best for both parties that a contract wasn’t signed. He wanted more game time, and Liverpool wanted to progress with younger talent.
Milos Kerkez is a fantastic left back. It took him a little bit of time to settle in. The club have to move forward. We're not getting any younger, some of us are in our 30s. The club have to be ambitious and that's what we want.
In January, Tottenham Hotspur were looking to sign Robertson, but the deal collapsed. Roma weren’t able to find a left-back option to replace Kostas Tsimikas, so his return to Liverpool fell through, which affected Robertson’s transfer to Spurs.
Four months later, Andy Robertson would absolutely have regretted his decision if the deal didn’t fall through because he got the perfect send-off at Anfield. Fans chanted his name throughout the 90 minutes and beyond, alongside Liverpool’s Egyptian king, Mohamed Salah.

It’s a good move for Robertson. Early suggestions for Tottenham fans imply Destiny Udogie has fallen out of favour following this signing.
As always, you would prefer to see a former Liverpool player in a different league. Instead, he’s now become one of our rivals, joining a fellow Big Six side.
However, Andy Robertson has given his prime years at Liverpool football club, so this move shouldn’t anger anyone. Fans will wish him all the best, except for when he plays against the Reds!
