Liverpool’s hopes of signing Yan Diomande appear to have suffered another setback after RB Leipzig reportedly decided they no longer intend to sell the winger this summer.
Liverpool might have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements after RB Leipzig reportedly decided to keep Yan Diomande beyond the current transfer window.
The Reds have been strongly linked with the 19-year-old in recent weeks as they explore options to strengthen Andoni Iraola’s frontline.
However, SPORT BILD journalist Robert Schreier claims Leipzig has decided against sanctioning Diomande’s departure this summer.
The Bundesliga side believe it’s highly unlikely any club will meet their reported €120 million valuation for the Ivory Coast international.
Consequently, Leipzig is focusing on keeping the winger and building their future around him.
New contract planned
Instead of preparing for Diomande’s exit, Leipzig is reportedly ready to reward him with a new contract.
The proposed deal would include a significant salary increase to reflect his growing importance to the team.
Leipzig’s hierarchy has also outlined their long-term sporting project to the winger, explaining the central role they expect him to play under new head coach Martín Demichelis.
The only possible scenario for a summer transfer would involve an unusual agreement.
According to the report, Leipzig could consider selling Diomande if a buying club agreed to immediately loan him back for the entire 2026/27 campaign. However, such a structure seems unlikely at this stage.
Liverpool may need alternatives
This latest development presents another obstacle for Liverpool if Diomande remains a target.
The Reds have been assessing wide attacking options throughout the summer despite insisting they won’t reduce their current depth in forwards.
Recent reports have also linked Liverpool with players like Bradley Barcola, although Paris Saint-Germain maintains the France international isn’t for sale.
If Leipzig declines offers for Diomande Liverpool might now be forced to speed up interest in alternative targets before the transfer window closes.
Author’s View: The door isn’t completely shut on Diomade’s situation
While Leipzig’s stance seems firm for now transfer situations can change as the deadline approaches. A significant offer or a shift in the player’s position could still alter discussions later in the window.
However, Leipzig is determined to keep one of their brightest young talents. This means bringing Diomande to Anfield has become much more complicated than it seemed just a few weeks ago.
Player preference is clearly crucial as well, and Diomande’s preference weeks prior was PSG, so any movements would assumably mean the French side have the upper hand.
