Manchester United are reportedly preparing an offer for Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare, but Liverpool might want to keep an eye on the situation having been linked previously.

Liverpool’s midfield rebuild isn’t finished yet and Mamadou Sangare is a name creating traction in terms of transfers.

There are fresh reports that Manchester United are making an offer for the Lens midfielder, with the 23-year-old having also been linked with a move to Liverpool recently.

While much of the summer focus has been on reinforcing in attack and tightening up their defence, these latest developments raise an interesting question about their midfield options and crucially, with the fee, could Sangare be one of the best value opportunities on the market?

A Different Kind of Transfer

Transfer fees are rising at an incredible rate, with clubs now regularly spending excessive amounts on players with limited top-level experience.

In contrast, Sangare’s reported valuation of around €40 million is quite tame in terms of modern day transfer fees.

At 23, the Lens midfielder is nearing the stage of his career where development and immediate impact can begin to overlap.

This combination is often difficult to find without spending a lot more money.

For Liverpool, who are balancing squad investment across various positions, this price point could be particularly appealing.

Midfield Requires Work

Much of Liverpool’s summer discussion has understandably focused on replacing Mohamed Salah and rebuilding the defence after Ibrahima Konaté’s departure.

However, midfield remains an area that needs attention.

Curtis Jones is still linked with Inter Milan, and there are questions about the squad’s long-term depth and balance.

Andoni Iraola’s style also places a lot of physical and tactical demands on midfield players.

His teams rely heavily on intensity pressing and athleticism in central areas.

Adding another energetic option could make a lot of sense.

Why Liverpool Might Be Interested

Liverpool might be interested in Sangare for several reasons.

The Mali international is a young player with a bucket load of potential, his price point is relatively low compared to other midfielders, his style of play complements Andoni Iraola’s system and Sangare is a proven performer in Ligue 1.

Overall, Sangare could be a valuable addition to Liverpool’s midfield as he fits several of the profiles Liverpool have targeted in recent times.

Young enough to improve further, experienced enough to contribute immediately and available at a fee that would not dominate the club’s transfer budget.

The Reds have already demonstrated a willingness to pursue players before they reach elite-level valuations.

In many ways, that has been one of the club’s most successful recruitment strategies.

If Liverpool genuinely admire Sangare, waiting another year could easily result in his value rising significantly, although Manchester United lead the race for now.
