Jérémy Jacquet has been named Liverpool’s August/September Player of the Month, capping off an outstanding introduction to life on Merseyside.

Liverpool Player Of The Month

The 21-year-old French defender claimed the award following a supporters’ vote, finishing ahead of Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak after establishing himself as a key figure in Andoni Iraola’s defence.

Speaking after receiving the award at the AXA Training Centre, Jacquet expressed his delight at being recognised by the supporters.

“I'm really happy! It's special that the fans chose me. It's a good reward, I hope I have many more.”

Hit The Ground Running

Arriving from Stade Rennais during the summer, Jacquet faced the considerable challenge of adapting to Premier League football while stepping into a Liverpool defence alongside Virgil van Dijk.

However, the youngster has displayed maturity beyond his years, combining physical strength, intelligent positioning and composure in possession.

Outstanding Performances So Far

His first glimpse of Anfield came during Liverpool’s 2-0 pre-season victory over Como, where he marked an impressive debut with a goal and several commanding defensive interventions.

That confidence carried into the competitive campaign. Jacquet delivered an excellent performance during Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town on 4th September, helping Iraola’s side secure their first league clean sheet of the season.

He followed that with another assured display against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, before producing arguably his finest Anfield performance in the goalless draw against Fulham, earning an impressive 8.5 Sofascore rating.

However, his standout moment arrived during Liverpool’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.

Jacquet was named Player of the Match after a commanding defensive display, completing 54 of his 61 passes, including ten line-breaking deliveries, alongside crucial interceptions and a last-ditch block.

His contribution helped restrict Bournemouth to just 0.76 expected goals. Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor was particularly impressed, declaring:

“He looks comfortable, he looks assured, he looks magnificent.”

Jacquet’s performances also earned him a nomination for September’s Premier League Player of the Month, having helped Liverpool keep three consecutive league clean sheets.

For Liverpool fans, the excitement surrounding their new defender is entirely justified. Replacing an established centre-back is never straightforward, particularly at a club where expectations are enormous.

Yet Jacquet has approached the challenge with remarkable confidence. At just 21, his best years should still be ahead of him.

And if these opening months are anything to go by, Liverpool may have discovered the long-term defensive cornerstone they have been searching for.
