At just 17, Gilberto Mora is already one of Mexico’s most exciting talents and with reports claiming Liverpool have tabled a record-breaking offer, Anfield could be his next destination.
Liverpool have increasingly tried to identify tomorrow’s stars before their price becomes unreachable and reports from Mexico suggest they are now prepared to make a huge investment in one of world football’s brightest teenagers.
Offer Submitted For Mora
Liverpool have reportedly submitted an offer worth more than $50million (£37m) for Club Tijuana sensation Gilberto Mora, with Mexican journalist David Faitelson claiming negotiations over a potential move are progressing.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has been on Liverpool’s radar for months, but the latest claims represent a significant development.
Speaking on TUDN, Faitelson said he had been informed in Tijuana that Mora’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, had presented an offer from Liverpool to the Liga MX club.
REUTERS/Raquel Cunha“It would be a historic figure, above $50m,” Faitelson said, with such a deal potentially making Mora the most valuable outgoing transfer in Mexican football history.
There is an important note of caution. ESPN Mexico are also reported to have information that several formal proposals have reached Tijuana and that one has progressed to an advanced stage, but they have not identified Liverpool as the club responsible for that particular offer.
Still, Liverpool’s interest appears increasingly difficult to dismiss. Even the club’s official website recently highlighted reports that the club had made direct contact with Mora’s representatives, although Liverpool stressed that the story was reproduced from external media and did not represent the club’s own position.
Why Liverpool Are So Interested In Mora
For somebody who has not even celebrated his 18th birthday, Mora’s senior experience is remarkable.
The Mexican has already made 57 league appearances for Tijuana, scoring 13 goals, while his start to the 2026/27 Liga MX campaign has accelerated the hype considerably. He has scored five goals and provided one assist in seven league appearances, despite being just 17.
Mora is predominantly an attacking midfielder, but it is his intelligence between the lines, close control and willingness to take responsibility that make him such an intriguing prospect.
He does not play like somebody waiting to develop into a first-team footballer, he already looks comfortable being one.
His reputation exploded further during the 2026 World Cup, where he became Mexico’s youngest-ever player at the tournament at just 17 years and 240 days.

There has also been intrigue surrounding his latest absence from the Mexican national team. Reports claim Mora trained normally before being omitted and returning to Tijuana.
Faitelson believes the decision was connected to ongoing negotiations and an unwillingness to risk an injury.
“For me, Mora not playing on Saturday is an indication that the operation is moving forward and progressing,” he said.
Mora turns 18 on 14th October, removing one of the major obstacles surrounding an international move.
Spending around £37m on a teenager from Liga MX would undoubtedly represent a gamble. And if the latest information from Mexico is accurate, this has moved beyond Liverpool merely watching another wonderkid from afar.
The Reds appear determined to put themselves at the front of the queue for one of football’s most exciting young talents.
