Liverpool’s stance on Curtis Jones is becoming one of the more intriguing subplots of the summer transfer window, with the club placing a valuation of around 35 million on the academy graduate despite growing uncertainty over his long-term future at the club.

Italian champions Inter Milan remain interested in the 25-year-old midfielder, but there is a clear gap between the clubs' assessments of his value.

Reports in both England (@pauljoyce) and Italy suggest Inter are reluctant to go beyond the 20-25 million range, especially with Jones entering the final year of his contract.

Tuttosport recently reported that Jones has fallen out with Manager Arne Slot and is refusing to sign a new contract at Liverpool, with just over a year remaining on his current deal.

From Liverpool’s perspective, the price tag is rooted in more than just contract length. Jones is homegrown, Premier League-proven, tactically versatile, and entering what many would consider the prime years of his career.

With Jones featuring heavily during last season, even filling in at right back during the injury crisis, Liverpool believes that profile commands a premium in today’s market.

Inter, however, is approaching negotiations from a position of leverage. With Jones potentially available on a free transfer in 2027, the Serie A giants see little reason to meet Liverpool’s asking price now.

Italian reports claim Inter Milan’s initial offer was around €20 million, while Liverpool is demanding closer to €30 million plus a future sell-on clause.

The situation is complicated further by stalled contract talks between Jones and Liverpool. Sources close to the club suggest discussions over an extension have slowed significantly, while the player is believed to want assurances over his role at the club moving forward.

Despite flashes of quality and long-standing admiration from supporters, Jones has struggled to cement himself as an automatic starter in Liverpool’s midfield.

Competition from established names and tactical reshuffles under Slot have left the England international weighing up his options.

For Inter, the appeal is obvious. Jones offers technical quality, pressing ability and positional flexibility, attributes highly valued in Serie A. Yet the Nerazzuri appear determined not to overpay for a player they believe could become significantly cheaper within 12 months.

Liverpool now faces a balancing act: cash in on a valuable academy asset this summer or risk losing him for nothing next year.

For a player once viewed as a vital cog of Liverpool’s future, the coming weeks could define the next phase of his career.
