Liverpool's Alisson Becker Emerges As Part Of Juventus' Transfer Strategy This Summer

The goalkeeping department for Liverpool has not been an issue for many years since the arrival of Alisson Becker back in 2018, and many LFC fans can't imagine a world without the Brazilian in between the sticks for the Reds. 

But Alisson's time at Liverpool could be coming to an end sooner rather than later, and with just one year to go on his current deal, could Serie A Giants Juventus make a play for LFC's number one?

For a few years, Caoimhin Kelleher was Liverpool's number two goalkeeper, and whenever he was called upon he filled the void perfectly. But, it soon became apparent that Kelleher was too good to be a number two goalkeeper so he left Liverpool last summer and signed for fellow Premier League side Brentford, where he is their number one goalkeeper. 

Giorgi Mamardashvili was brought in by Liverpool to be the new understudy to Alisson, with the hope that he could eventually be the Brazilian's long term successor.

But, in his debut season for the Reds he would end up playing 20 games across all competitions, and would struggle to have the same presence as Alisson and even failed to match what Kelleher was able to do in the Liverpool goal, with Mamardashvili's distribution in particular being questionable on more than one occasion. 

This isn't to say that Mamardashvili can't be a top level goalkeeper, but it is clear that he needs to step up and work on the sides of the game he is weak at, like his distribution and overall ball playing ability, something that Liverpool fans had became accustom to being a major strength of their goalkeeper, if he wants to succeed at Liverpool long term. 

Alisson has been the undisputed number one goalkeeper for Liverpool for six years now, and has been an essential cornerstone in the success that the club have had since his debut for the club, but in recent years he has showed signs that time is perhaps catching up on him.

Goalkeepers getting injured isn't a regular occurence in football, and they are seen to be the one consistent that clubs have, with many goalkeepers staying at one or two clubs for the bulk of their career.

So when one has frequent injuries it becomes a headache for any club very quickly, and this is what has been happening to Alisson at Liverpool. 

In the last two seasons, Alisson Becker has missed a total of 54 games for club and country, with the main type of injury being muscle ones, specifically hamstring injuries.

This is quite clearly an issue for Liverpool as it means that they are unable to rely on Alisson for a full season, meaning they have to have a 2nd choice goalkeeper who is willing to sit on the bench for parts of the season, but also be good enough to play frequently as well. 

Liverpool have also received interest in Alisson Becker in recent months, with Juventus being a name that is constantly linked with Liverpool's goalkeeper.

The Italian side attempted to sign Alisson earlier in this transfer window, but with Alisson not pushing for a move and LFC wanting to keep him for the upcoming campaign, Juventus backed off.

But reports have emerged today from Italian Journalist Claudio Galuppi that Juventus have a plan for their goalkeeping department that involves Alisson Becker.

The report goes on to say that the Italian club are looking to loan in Zion Suzuki, once he completes an impeding move to PSG, then next summer, when Alisson is available on a free transfer, they will attempt to sign the Brazilian. 

Alisson Becker is not getting any younger, and with age comes an increased chance of picking up muscle injuries, and this is clearly happening to Alisson at the moment.

However, when fit and available he still is one of the best goalkeepers in world football, but if he misses 20 games a season, is it worth keeping him around?

LFC need to have a plan for life after Alisson, and the same goes with the likes of Van Dijk, with the pair of them in their mid 30's.

And with question marks still surrounding Giorgi Mamardashvili's ability to be Liverpool number one, perhaps the club need to start looking for their next Alisson outside of their current roster.
