With question marks around the winger position for Liverpool rumbling on, has the club identified a solution to their problems in the form of FC Porto's William Gomes?
Liverpool have been linked with one of the brightest young talents coming out of a top European league over the last year or so, and he would be a majorly exciting addition to the LFC attacking roster.
And perhaps most importantly of all, he would fill a position that many Reds fans feel the club should have filled during the summer window.
William Gomes Player Profile
Playing in Liga Portugal for league champions FC Porto, William Gomes looks like a top prospect for any major club looking for an addition on the wing.
A right winger by trade, Gomes signed for FC Porto from Brazilian side São Paulo back in January 2025 for a fee of £7.6 million, plus left back Wendell moving in the opposite direction.
William Gomes would go on to make his debut for FC Porto just a week after signing, coming off the bench against Sporting CP.
IMAGO / ZUMA Press WireFor the rest of the 2024/25 season, Gomes made appearances off the bench in the league, but failed to have any real impact as he adjusted to a new league and country at such a young age.
After a few months of acclimatising to the division, William Gomes arrived. In the 2025/26 campaign, he would score 14 goals and one assist across all competitions, despite again not being used as a regular starter.
But his contributions helped toward FC Porto reclaiming the league title as well as reaching a UEFA Europa League quarter-final, getting beaten narrowly by Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
These performances started getting the attention of clubs across the continent, but he remained an FC Porto player going into this campaign and has started as he left off last time around.
Starting every game for the reigning champions in the league, and already having a goal and an assist, it is starting to look like FC Porto may have a difficult task on their hands trying to keep hold of William Gomes beyond this season.

According to A BOLA, a Portuguese publication, Liverpool are closely monitoring FC Porto winger William Gomes ahead of a possible move for the Brazilian in the near future.
The report goes on to say that Gomes recently signed a contract extension with the Portuguese giants until 2031, with his release clause rising to £84.6 million next summer, with Atletico Madrid also keen on the forward after being highly interested in the last transfer window.
Why Are Liverpool Still Looking For Wingers?
After the arrivals of Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola during the summer window, some may question why the club continue to be linked with more wingers.
The simple answer to that is currently, there are no natural right-sided wingers at the club, with players such as Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha being played there instead.
So if the Reds could secure someone like William Gomes, it would allow Andoni Iraola to move Ngumoha or Gakpo back over to their favoured left-hand side.
