With Ibrahima Konaté’s contract expiring, the Reds must secure defensive reinforcements. From Bundesliga powerhouses to Premier League captains, these three elite center-backs could anchor Arne Slot’s backline.
Ibrahima Konaté signed for Liverpool in May 2021 and has made 183 appearances for the club, scoring seven in that time. He was an integral part of Klopp's success in the back end of his career at Liverpool and helped secure Liverpool's second Premier League title. With his contract up in June, here are three options to replace Konate at Anfield.

Fresh off a Conference League trophy, Lacroix is an obvious choice for Liverpool. The Frenchman has Premier League experience with Crystal Palace, making 98 appearances for The Eagles.
He moved there in August 2024, in a deal worth £18 million. He's currently worth an estimated $55 million and is under contract until 2029.

He's extremely involved as well, sitting in the top 85% of center backs in defensive contributions per 90. With his pace and physicality, he's a great fit for a Liverpool side that has been struggling at the back.
Kim Min-Jae
Bayern Munich have had some great defenders over the years, and Kim Min-Jae adds to that list. Joining from Napoli for €50 million in 2023, Kim has been a solid contributor for a Bayern Munich team that has impressed domestically in recent years. Recently, however, he has seen rotation in the squad with the arrival of Jonathan Tah, which has drastically reduced his playing time.

His distribution, which is a trait favored by Arne Slot, is something that would encourage the Dutchman to pursue signing the South Korean. He averages 84 passes per 90, with a staggering 95% pass accuracy. In a Liverpool side that has predominantly valued possession in build-up, he would seem to be a great fit.
Nathan Collins
In a return to the Premier League, it's worth noting that Nathan Collins has been immense in Brentford's challenge for European football this season. The 6'4" center back was an ever-present part of Brentford's push, which ended on the final day after a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, and the Brentford captain has since been linked with a move away this summer.
Nathan Collins REUTERSWith a Liverpool side that is losing much of its core leadership group, bringing in the Brentford and Ireland captain would be an appealing move for the Merseyside giants. While his statistics are not as impressive as the other two on the list, being Premier League proven and only 25, the appeal is there for a player who has not yet seen his prime years.
In a summer that looks to be busy for the Reds, it will be interesting to see how they choose to approach the impending gap in the backline. With only four senior center-backs currently in the squad, and Joe Gomez being linked with a move away this summer, it is evident that Liverpool do need to find an answer to prepare for an important 26/27 season.
