A Manchester United legend slams the title race's lack of quality and proposes a shocking trophy decision for this season's champions.

The Premier League title race is intensifying, with Arsenal currently leading the table with 64 points, holding a five-point advantage over Manchester City, which has a game in hand. Meanwhile, Manchester United trails in third place with 51 points.

In a season where Pep Guardiola's Manchester City has struggled to maintain its usual relentless consistency, and Mikel Arteta's Arsenal has occasionally stumbled under the weight of expectations, Scholes believes the standard has not lived up to historic title-winning levels.

The Gunners recently dropped points in a frustrating 2-2 draw with Wolves, while City has spent much of the season trying to recover ground after a surprisingly sluggish start. For Scholes, the lack of quality is so evident that he has suggested a drastic and unprecedented solution regarding the trophy presentation in May.

On The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes expressed his frustration with the current state of the top flight, arguing that the lack of entertainment should disqualify both teams from glory.

"Whoever wins the league, in the end, you'll say they deserve it. Neither of them has convinced me that they should be Premier League champions. I don't think they should hand out the trophy this year. Nobody deserves it. Honestly, it hasn't been enjoyable to watch," Scholes stated.

A particularly contentious point for Scholes is the way teams are currently scoring goals, and he is especially bothered by Arsenal's heavy reliance on set pieces.

The United legend believes that the enormous pressure of the title race is stifling players' creativity, especially those at the Emirates Stadium, who are desperate to end two decades of waiting to win the league.

"There's enormous pressure on them (Arsenal), isn't there? There is because they've been in very good positions over the years and haven't been able to get across the line," Scholes added when analyzing the psychological obstacles facing the league leaders.
