How big of a miss is Casemiro going tone at Manchester United?

Michael Carrick has revolutionised this Manchester United side since is appointment in January, boosting the Red Devils to third in the Premier League and almost certainly securing a place in the Champions League next season.

Monday evening saw United secure three points against Brentford thanks to goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko as United get a stronger hold on their position in the table

One of Carrick's most notable achievements has been getting the best from United's midfielders as Bruno Fernandes closes in on the Premier League assist record, Casemiro has reached a personal goalscoring record and Kobbie Mainoo has reinstated himself as not only a starter, but a key role in United's squad, as proven last night with another stellar performance in red.

Mainoo's performance highlighted not only his elite ability on the ball, but also his workmate and ball-winning out of possession, going to ground on multiple occasions to re-gain the ball for United, allowing them to see out the win.

However, Mainoo was not the only star against Brentford, as Manchester United legend Gary Neville has praised another player, who's performance was up their with Mainoo.

Neville highlights Casemiro's performance on par with Mainoo

Casemiro has been an integral part of Carrick's success this season, with the Brazilian often being United's match winner both with his goalscoring ability and defensive cover across the full 90 minutes, despite being 34-years-old.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville identified Casemiro's performance as a standout display alongside Mainoo.

"Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro have been the best two players for Man Utd tonight," he revealed.

Casemiro was awarded the Premier League Player of the Match after his worthy performance. As chants for "One more year" echoed around Old Trafford.

Despite announcing his departure at the end of the season, the midfielder has not taken his foot off the gas as he continues to put huge performances game after game, goal after goal, tackle after tackle.

The South American opened the scoring in the first half, getting on the end of a Harry Maguire header back across goal as United scored from yet another set piece.

As United tried to see the game out, it was still the veteran midfielder who was covering every blade of grass, utilising his experience making crucial tackles and winning fouls as Carrick's side saw the game out to the final whistle, securing three points.

How can Man Utd replace Casemiro?

Many names have circulated the fanbase around who will fill Casemiro's boots, such as Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali and Adam Wharton, all of whom have proven their ability in the Premier League.

However, this season alone has demonstrated Casemiro's extra influence with his aerial threat winning so many points for United this season. The five-time Champions League winner has scored eight headed goals this season alone.

In a season where set pieces have become so influential, aerial ability is certainly a quality that United must factor in when searching for replacements.

For now, United must keep their attention on the Premier League as they host top five hunting Liverpool on Sunday, looking to do the double over Arne Slot.
