The Swedish midfielder credits growing confidence and tactical fluidity for United’s resurgence as her clinical strike and defensive heroics secured a vital victory over the Reds.
Who was your standout player vs Liverpool
Manchester United Women secured back to back Women's Super League wins for the first time since February with a 1-0 win over Liverpool thanks to an early strike from Julia Zigiotti Olme.
Eva Olid's players were electric from kickoff pressing Liverpool straight away, counteracting Gareth Taylor's preferred pressing play style and it paid off.
Zigiotti Olme's relentless press from Khiara Keating's pass out from the back caught the keeper off guard as the Swede lifted her effort over Keating to give United the advantage early on.
From then on, it was a game of defensive heroics with Phallon-Tullis Joyce coming to the rescue time and time again with superb reflexes, huge claims from Liverpool crosses and confidence from the back.
Likewise, Liverpool managed to keep United out for the rest of the ninety minutes with Jess Park coming closest striking the crossbar, with the rebound falling to Andrea Medina who forced an excellent reflex save from Keating.
Ziggioti Olme Talks On Progress under Olid
With seven points on the board, improvements are coming under Eva Olid with a strong performance in their draw against Arsenal and four wins from four following after.
Speaking with BBC Sport, goalscorer Zigiotti Olme spoke about the progressions in the squad and their approach to the game this afternoon.
"We wanted to start the game quick and hope they were not prepared, so we're very happy about that.
"I think we've just grown confidence in how we play. It was new when Eva came but I think we've grown a lot in training, in the games and we had two cup games where a lot of the players could play so we just keep going."
The Swedish midfielder has scored twice in her last three starts and has quickly become a pivotal role in Olid's side earning the Player of the Match award today with her goal being the difference maker.
Olid Finding Her Strongest Selection
The side today was identical to that which started against West Ham in Olid's last league fixture and the confidence and fluidity in the squad is a major positive sign for the future.
Having the balance of initial quality and impact off the bench is becoming more reassured with the substitutions today proving vital in seeing out the win.
Olid has particularly put lots of faith in the youth, partially by choice and partially by the lack of depth within the squad. There were many major first team departures last season with the likes of Melvine Malard and Millie Turner leaving, creating the opportunity for youth players like Marred Griffiths and Layla Drury to feature more within the squad, building their experience already.
With the international break putting United on pause, they have time to work on the finer details which could have been exploited today against Liverpool, with the opponents having far too much freedom to deliver crosses and United unable to secure the win earlier on.
